Richard Franz Joseph Heuberger (1850, Graz, Austria) was an Austrian composer of operas and operettas, as well as a music critic and lecturer. Heuberger was born in Graz, son of a bandage manufacturer. He started studying engineering but then moved to music in 1876. * He studied at the Graz Conservatory (where he worked with Robert Fuchs) and later moved to Vienna, where he later became the Wiener Gesangverein's chorus master, conductor, and Wiener Men's Choral Association professor. Despite Heuberger's many operas, ballets, choral works, and songs, he is best known for his operetta Der Opernball, which he composed in 1898. Clemens Krauss was one of his pupils.
