Richard Hatch Life

Richard Holman Hatch Jr. (born April 8, 1961) is an American former reality television contestant.

He won the first season of the CBS reality show Survivor in 2000.

He appeared on a new All-Stars season of Survivor, one season of Celebrity Apprenticeship, and one season of The Biggest Loser. Hatch was found guilty of attempting to evade taxes in 2006.

Hatch received another nine-month jail term in 2011 for a probation infringement.

In its 2013 list of "The 60 Nastiest Villains of All Time," TV Guide listed him.

He was one of 16 contestants on The Biggest Loser: Temptation Nation.

Early life and education

Hatch was born and raised near Newport, Rhode Island, and graduated from Middletown High School in 1979.

He first majored in Marine Biology and Oceanography at the Florida Institute of Technology before being enlisted in the Army in 1980. Hatch was sent to the United States Military Academy at West Point by Rhode Island Senator John Chafee, who enlisted. Hatch served for five years and was honorably discharged in 1985. He was first stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, and Fort Stewart, Georgia, before visiting USMAPS in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, and the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York.

Hatch left West Point for New York City, where he worked with Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell (parents of Studio 54) at the Palladium. He later attended Baruch College in New York and George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, where he became a sperm donor.

Hatch spent eight years in Washington, D.C., and graduated from National-Louis University with a bachelor's degree in Management/Applied Behavioral Sciences. Hatch returned to Newport, Rhode Island, where she adopted Christopher, a 7-year-old boy. He earned a master's degree in Education and Counseling at Providence College in Rhode Island.

Hatch began working as a bartender, auto salesman, and licensed real estate agent before nearly 15 years as a corporate trainer and consultant for his own business.

Personal life

Emiliano Cabral, who is openly gay and married in 2005 Nova Scotia, was a guest at Hatch's wedding. In December 2017, Hatch filed for divorce.

Hatch was charged with tax evasion and jailed for not paying taxes on his winning sum after his Survivor win of $1 million. He served a 51-month term in federal prison. Hatch and his partners had argued that the trial and conviction were flawed because the IRS never launched an inquiry into his 2000 and 2001 tax returns and never found that any particular amount of taxes was due. He served an additional nine months in jail for failing to update his 2000 and 2001 tax returns after being released from jail.

Following his Survivor victory in a public auction in 2013, Hatch in Sydney, Nova Scotia, was included in a tax auction. Hatch had not paid property taxes on the property for a period of more than six years, according to the CBRM tax department.
