Ralph Frederick Winter (born April 24, 1952) is an American film director who has produced blockbuster films such as the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Star Trek series, as well as I, Robot and Planet of the Apes.

His films have grossed over $2 billion (USD) collectively.Winter is a member of the Directors Guild of America and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He has worked with such film schools as the Veracity Project at Biola University and taught at Regent College, Vancouver.

Personal life

Winter is a Christian, and his faith prompted him to co-operate on a film based on the Left Behind series of books, but he stopped the work before it was complete.

Ralph Winter Career

Early life and career

Winter was born in Glendale, California, the son of Effie Audrey (Crawford) and Charles Frederick Winter. He studied History at the University of California, Berkeley. This was his first venture into production, making training videos for Broadway Department Stores. Winter began working in Paramount Pictures television in 1978, where he appeared on Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Mork and Mindy. He began working with Harve Bennett on the Star Trek films following his experiences in television. Spock, executive producer on Star Trek IV: The Last Frontier, and producer on Star Trek III: The Undiscovered Country.
