Rachel Williams (born April 29, 1967) is an American model, television presenter, and landscape designer.

Early life

Williams is the niece of dancer Tod Williams and Patricia Agnes Jones. Her parents divorced when she was five years old, and she and her younger brother, filmmaker Tod "Kip" Williams, lived with their mother in Lower Manhattan's West Village. The family migrated to Woodstock, New York, following her mother's remarriage in the late 1970s. Williams joined Mills College after graduating from high school. She attended Bard College, where she majored in art history after a year.

Personal life

Williams dated restaurateur Eric Goode while attending college.

Williams' manager announced her friendship with British pop singer Alice Temple in March 1995.

Career

While visiting her father's studio in November 1985, Williams was discovered by a Click Model Management employee. Williams met with Click's owner, Frances Grill, on the employee's instructions. After Williams promised to lose weight, Grill deemed Williams too heavy to model, but she committed to a conditional, one-year deal. Williams returned to school and lost twenty pounds over the course of a year. She returned to Click in October 1986 and renewed her deal.

Williams' career got off to a slow start, but she did get her break in January 1987. Williams was posted to the job after another model became sick and was unable to attend a swimsuit shoot for Mademoiselle on Grill's suggestion. Photographers were taken aback by Williams' photographs from the shooting. Arthur Elgort's next job was a photoshoot in Barbados. She worked with Bill King for French Elle on her return.

Williams' fame increased. She reserved jobs for the British and Italian versions of Vogue, as well as a Bloomingdales' sitting. She was photographed by Bruce Weber for Calvin Klein the following month. Williams later appeared in Cosmopolitane and did catalog work for Victoria's Secret and J. The crew. She has also appeared in commercial campaigns for Bon Jour jeans, Ciara perfume, Absolut vodka, and Revlon.

Williams left Click after two years and joined the Ford Agency, dissatisfied with the quality of her modeling careers. Williams was charged with $11 million in breach of employment law. Click in addition to a lawsuit against Ford's model and model Christy Turlington, who was signed with Ford. Click to sign with Ford. Eileen Ford, the vice president of Turlington and Ford, persuaded Williams to resign her deal. A judge ruled in Turlington's favour in April 1990.

Williams took architecture classes at Columbia University during her modeling career. After graduation, she returned to modeling. In 1992, she posed for Playboy for the first time. She appeared in an ad campaign photographed by Richard Avedon in 1995 and walked the runway for Thierry Mugler's Winter haute couture show, and she was the cover model for the Red Krayola's EP Amor and Language. She co-hosted the Channel 4 series The Girlie Show from 1996 to 1997. She was also included in George Michael's "Fastlove" and "Never Ever Love" in 1996 and Simply Red's "Never Ever Love" and "Never Never Love" in George Michael's "Fastlove." In an episode of Strangers with Candy in 2000, Williams guest appeared as "Dr. Rachel Williams, Supermodel." During London Fashion Week in February 2009, Williams opened Giles Deacon's Fall/Winter fashion show.
