Career

Gerety is a veteran of stage, film, and television. In early 1992, he achieved critical acclaim on Broadway in Conversations with My Father, starring Judd Hirsch, and Harold Pinter's Hothouse. He has appeared in several other productions both on and off-Broadway, most notably in Martin McDonagh's The Lieutenant of Inishmore.

He appeared in the cast of the Barry Levinson's NBC police drama Homicide: Life on the Street in the late 1990s. He appeared in FBI Aggression. In Life on Mars' short-lived American version, Franklin Morgan appeared. Martin Kilpatrick appears in Brotherhood's final season. He appears in the 2011 NBC series Prime Suspect as Maria Bello's father.

He appeared in such films as K-Pax, People I Know, The Curse of the Jade Scorpion, Hollywood Ending, Wolf, Charlie Wilson's War, Surviving Picasso, War of the Worlds, Things That Hang from Trees, and Changeling. He appeared in Public Enemies (2009), directed by Michael Mann, and appeared in Mel Gibson's Get the Gringo (2011). Gerety was playing John Cotter in Nora Ephron's Broadway play Lucky Guy with Tom Hanks in 2013. Gerety plays Otto Bernhardt, the patriarch of Amazon Prime's Sneaky Pete, in 2017.
