Perry Kitchen Life

Perry Allen Kitchen (born February 29, 1992) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a defensive midfielder for the Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer. He was part of the Akron Zips team that won the 2010 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship, and he was the first pick for D.C. United in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft.

He appeared in 187 total games and scored ten goals for Washington, D.C., and was champion of the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

He moved to the Scottish Premiership's Heart of Midlothian, who named him their captain in March 2016.

He returned to MLS with the LA Galaxy in January 2018 after six months with Randers of the Danish Superliga. At the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria, Kitchen was captain of the United States national under-17 soccer team.

He made his senior international debut in February 2015 and was part of the Copa América Centenario squad that finished fourth.

Professional career

Kitchen accepted a trial offer from Belgium's Anderlecht to commit to a Generation Adidas deal with MLS. In the first round (3rd overall) of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, he was selected by D.C. United. In United's 2011 MLS season opener against the Columbus Crew on March 19, 2011, he scored his first professional goal against the Portland Timbers on May 29. Perry was a finalist for the 2011 Rookie of the Year Award, but he wasn't chosen.

He had 4 assists for the 2013 season, which was a new high for the team. He was named The Most Valuable Player of the 2013 season by D.C. United. He appeared in all five matches of their 2013 U.S. Open Cup win, including the 1–0 final victory at Real Salt Lake on October 1.

After the 2015 season, Kitchen's deal with D.C. United came to an end.

On March 9, 2016, Kitchen signed Heart of Midlothian to a 2+1-year contract. He made his Scottish Premiership debut three days earlier, winning 1–0 over Dundee as a 73rd-minute replacement for Sam Nicholson.

Kitchen was named club captain on September 21, 2016. Since Ian Cathro was appointed as the club's manager, he was allowed to leave the team at the end of the season.

In July 2017, Kitchen signed Randers, a Danish Superliga club, to a two-year contract.

When Kitchen signed with the Los Angeles Galaxy in January 2018, he returned to the United States. In exchange for $100,000 in general allocation funds and $200,000 in targeted allocation funds, LA obtained his MLS rights from Washington, D.C. United. He made his debut in the season opener, beating Portland 2–1 on March 4. Kitchen was out of work after the 2020 season.

Kitchen joined the Columbus Crew as a free agent on January 28, 2021. In a CONCACAF Champions League match against Real Esteli on April 15, 2021, Kitchen made his debut for the Crew. Kitchen suffered an injury to his right hamstring in the first game of the 2021 MLS season and did not return to the Black and Gold until July 9th, against FC Cincinnati. The club announced on August 19th that Kitchen had undergone successful back surgery for a herniated disc, bringing him to a 2021 MLS appearance after three starts and five total appearances.
