Paul Chapman Career

Early career

The Welsh outfit Universe, Chapman's first well-known band, was the Welsh outfit Universe. Chapman was hired on Skid Row in December 1971, replacing Gary Moore as guitarist. His service was short and he didn't work before July 1972. Kimla Taz, who performed from December 1972 to May 1974, was his next band.

Chapman became a second guitarist to improve their live sound after appearing in an advert in the UK's music newspaper, Melody Maker. He appeared at the Unity Theatre in London. Despite the fact that Chapman did not record an album during this period, he did appear and promote the Phenomenon album in time. On the BBC live sessions album that was released retrospectively, however, he can be seen with the band on several tracks. He left UFO in January 1975 due to personal differences with the band, and went on to form Lone Star, where he remained until June 1978.

When Michael Schenker and Rush were touring in the United States during one of the German guitarist's absences, he filled in for him in 1977.
