Career
Osvaldo Laport was born in Juan Lacaze, Uruguay, and was a descendant of Rubens Sixto and Teresa Natividad. During his youth, he worked in various casual jobs. Luis Udaquiola's brother was arrested and tortured, despite being suspected of being connected to the guerrilla group Tupamaros. In 1976, he moved to Buenos Aires and began studying drama at Luis Tasca's Drama School. He had to work in various capacities as clown, factory worker, and bricklayer to pay his room in a hotel downtown in order to promote his acting classes and pay his bed. He met Viviana Sáez in 1979, whom he married the following year (they have one daughter, Jazmn, who was born in 1995).
Luis Tasca, Osvaldo's drama teacher, had been called to assist in the production Adiós Juventud. Santiago Doria, who gave him the leading role in Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, another important role in Argentina, captured his imagination. Luis Tasca was a fan of Osvaldo's career in 1983, and she appeared in the soap opera Cara a Cara, starring Verónica Castro. He gained fame in television during the 1980s, and in 1990, he appeared in a leading role opposite Jeanette Rodro in the remake of Pobre diabla.
He appeared in Cosechar’s Tu Siembra the following year, as a lead actor, with Luisa Kuliok. Originally, the position was designed for Victor Laplace, but he resigned. He was named Best Actor in a Comedy by Martin Fierro (1999/2000) for his role as Guido Guevara in Campeones de la Vida.
Laport became the UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador in 2006, which was the case in 2006.
Martn Fierro appeared on television sitcom Son de Fierro (2007–2008). Other than the name, the character has no association with the famous Martn Fierro poem.
In 2009, Laport was the first Goodwill Ambassador to visit internally displaced camps and urban refugees in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The trip attracted substantial coverage in the media and a prime-time television documentary screening in Argentina and Uruguay.
