Early life
Onaodowan was born in Newark, New Jersey, to Nigerian parents. He and his five siblings were born in West Orange, New Jersey, and he attended Gregory Elementary School and Roosevelt Middle School, as well as West Orange High School, graduating in 2005. Onaodowan played football for a brief time, but he stopped after suffering a injury during practice. Onaodowan began exploring acting as an alternative extracurricular pursuit as a result of the injury. He began performing with the New Jersey Youth Theatre while attending high school. Onaodowan auditioned for and was accepted to Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts after high school. He was in attendance for a year.
Career
Onaodowan appeared in Rocky the Musical and Cyrano de Bergerac on Broadway and was in the ensemble of the first national tour of American Idiot. He was a lead actor in Young Jean Lee's 2009 play The Shipment, and he appeared in J.C. Lee's Luce.
Onaodowan was a veteran stage actor by 2015 and was a natural performer. In addition to his film appearances in Gravity and Blue Bloods, Lou in the film Thanks for Sharing and roles. In the Broadway musical Hamilton, he portrayed James Madison and Hercules Mulligan. He received a Grammy Award as part of Hamilton's cast album.
He played Pierre in the musical Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 on July 11, 2017, replacing outgoing Josh Groban. On August 13, 2017, he took his final bow in this production.
