Nick Powell Career

Club career

Powell, a native of Crewe, Cheshire, began his education at Sandbach School and started his career at Crewe Alexandra, a local club, before joining their youth team as a five-year-old. In a League Two match against Cheltenham Town that resulted in a 3–2 loss at Whaddon Road, he made his Crewe debut on August 19th. He made his debut for Crewe at the age of 16, becoming the second youngest player to play for Crewe.

Powell was dismissed for the first time in the 2–0 loss to Shrewsbury Town on August 20, 2011, after only being on the field for eight minutes. In a 3–1 away win over AFC Wimbledon on October 15, Powell scored his first senior goal. Powell was named Young Player of the Month for December in January 2012. In a 4–3 victory over Gillingham on March 10, 2012, he scored his first brace against them. He received every award at Crewe's end-of-season awards ceremony on April 21, 2012, becoming the first player to win all five categories, including Goal of the Year (for his 30-yard kick in Gillingham's 4–3 win), Young Player of the Year, and Player of the Year.

Powell scored the most significant goal of his career so far, a volley from outside the box to the top corner in the 2012 League Two play-off Final at Wembley Stadium, winning promotion to League One.

Powell joined Manchester United from Crewe Alexandra on 2 July 2012, a deal that could be worth up to £6 million, depending on future success and appearances. He was given the number 25 shirt that had been worn by Antonio Valencia, who wore the number 7 shirt. It's also the same shirt number he wore at Crewe.

Powell appeared in his first game for United on July 21, 2012, as a second-half replacement in a pre-season friendly against Ajax Cape Town in South Africa. In a pre-season friendly match against Shanghai Shenhua, he made his first appearance for Manchester United. In his first Premier League appearance against Wigan Athletic in the 71st minute and scoring his first goal for United in the 82nd minute after being denied a pass from Javier Hernández.

Powell joined Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan in the footsteps of fellow Manchester United player Tom Cleverley, who had been on loan at the club. Powell scored Wigan's first European goal against NK Maribor on October 3, 2013, before his side's 3–1 win and their third goal. Powell then boosted his European total score to three with a right-footed equalizer in Wigan's home tie against Rubin Kazan. Powell defeated Bolton Wanderers 3–2 on December 15, 2013, thanks to an overhead kick. In the FA Cup, Powell scored twice against Milton Keynes Dons twice, overcoming the 1–0 deficit to help Wigan win 3–1.

Powell was ranked number 22 in the 2014-2015/15 season. In a League Cup match against Milton Keynes Dons, which United lost 4–0, he started the season on Sunday. He was later substituted for James Wilson.

He was loaned to newly promoted Premier League team Leicester City for the remainder of the season, with Tom Lawrence continuing to move but on a permanent basis. Powell made his Leicester debut against West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on November 1st, appearing as a second-half replacement for Danny Drinkwater in a 0-1 home loss. Leicester City had decided to cancel Powell's loan early due to the player's inability to training, according to the team's announcement on December 27th.

Powell played 55 minutes in an under-21 game against Norwich City on November 23, 2015, having been sidelined by severe hamstring problems for nearly nine months.

Powell was included in United's Champions League squad for their crucial group game against VfL Wolfsburg on December 9, 2015, due to a string of injuries. In this game, United went on to lose 3–2. Juan Mata came on as a replacement for him. Manchester United have been knocked out of the Champions League after defeating CSKA Moscow in the other Group B match. In United's next game, a league loss at Bournemouth, his first league appearance for United in over three years, he continued as a second-half substitute.

Powell remained in Hull City on loan until the end of the 2015–16 season on February 1, 2016. In the FA Cup fifth round match against Arsenal that resulted in a 0–0 draw, he made his debut on February 20th.

Powell was released by Manchester United in June 2016, and Wolverhampton Wanderers were due to sign for Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2016.

Powell re-signed from Wigan Athletic on a free transfer on July 12, 2016, completing a three-year deal. Powell scored in his first game of the season on August 13 in a 3–0 home win over Blackburn Rovers. Powell's first season was seemingly ended prematurely by injury after a January 2017 FA Cup match against Nottingham Forest, but he returned to first-team action three months later, as a replacement and scoring a injury-time winner against Rotherham United. Powell, who were 2–0 down in the second half against Barnsley on April 13, 2017, scored an 11-minute hat-trick, giving his team a 3–2 home win. Powell carried his scoring momentum four days later, netting from the bench in Wigan's 2–1 away loss to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, April 17th. Powell's exploits weren't enough to help Wigan avoid relegation to EFL League One despite scoring five goals in three straight substitute appearances.

Powell launched his 2017–18 campaign on August 5, 2017, shooting from close range in Wigan's 1–0 opening day victory over Milton Keynes Dons. Wigan cruised to a 4–1 home victory over Bury, with Powell claiming a second-half brace the following week, scoring a header and converting a penalty. Powell scored 15 goals during the season and helped the Latics win the League One championship. He was nominated for the EFL One Player of the Season award in April 2018, but he was disqualified by Blackburn Rovers' Bradley Dack.

Powell started the 2018-19 season with a bang against Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, and Sheffield on Wednesday. Wigan won the Championship title by defeating Powell in 18th place after finishing in eighth place in 32 games. Powell turned down a new deal and instead signed one with Stoke City, according to Wigan boss Paul Cook.

Powell joined Stoke City in the Championship Championship on June 25th. Powell made his debut against Queens Park Rangers on the first day of the 2019-20 season, but he was unable to continue the game due to injury. He didn't return to the side until the end of the September against Nottingham Forest, which was when Stoke failed to win and were in last place. Stoke manager Michael O'Neill was appointed in November, and Powell became a key player of his team as Stoke's results continued to rise and the team moved away from the foot of the table. In a 5–2 win over Huddersfield Town on January 1, 2020, he scored his first goal for the club. Powell scored twice in a 5-1 victory over Hull City on March 7, 2020, just before the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Powell scored a 93rd-minute equalizer in the first match of the season back in Reading in June. After picking up two yellow cards in a minute, he came out for criticism in the upcoming match against Middlesbrough. Powell finished the season with five goals from 30 appearances, avoiding relegation and finishing in 15th place.

Powell had a fruitful year, leading with 42 league and cup appearances while also contributing to three others, but the continuing COVID-19 pandemic ruled that all of Stoke City's 2020-21 games were played behind closed doors. He received almost 60% of the vote in May 2021, becoming the club's end-of-the-Year Player of the Year award. In ten first team appearances before suffering a fibula injury that forced him to miss eight weeks, he started the 2021-22. Powell was sidelined for another six weeks in March 2022 after a brief return to the first team due to a new quad muscle injury. Stoke finished 14th in the final two matches of the season. Powell signed a one-year contract extension at the end of the season.

International career

Powell has appeared for England at under-16, under-17, under-18, under-19, and under-21 levels. In a 2–0 victory over Northern Ireland on November 5, 2009, he made his debut for the under-16 team. Powell made his under-17 debut against Turkey on August 25th. In a 4–0 victory over Australia in the FA Men's Under-17 International Tournament on August 28, 2010, Powell scored a free-kick for the under-17s. On October 3, 2012, he was called up to the under-21 squad for the first time. The object is hidden within a crowded landscape dotted with various colour vehicles, but The AA's complex puzzle conceals them. It took players on average to find the tyre, lost keys, fuel leak, and overheating automobiles in 65 seconds. But do you think you have what it takes to beat the 15-second record? Take a look at it and try it out, but remember that no cheating is allowed. With the occasional puzzle here and there, your brain's fitness will be put to the test, and this mystery full of traffic hazards is likely to be a challenge.

DAYS OF THE PYRAMID: As his super Stockport County team rewrite the record books in League Two, you'd be a fool to bet against promotions specialist Dave Challinor

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 24, 2023
LEWIS STEELE: A long list of superlatives that could be used about Dave Challinor's Stockport County, but perhaps a few studies are the best place to start in an argument about their sheer dominance this season. Northampton Town has the most points in a season since being rebranded as League Two, with 87 in 2015-16. If Stockport keeps up points at an average of 2.27 per game, they will finish on 104. If the Hatters win on Saturday in Newport County's Rodney Parade, they will break Luton Town's record for a winning streak in one season in the fourth tier, which saw them take three points in 12 straight matches in 2001-02.
