Neil Dudgeon Career

Career

In 1987, Dudgeon made his first screen appearance. Tim Woodward, Jeremy Northam, and Nathaniel Parker appeared as a Second World War pilot in Piece of Cake the following year.

In addition to occasional appearances in series such as Casualty, Burning, and Lovejoy, George Costello played as George the Chauffeur in The Mrs Bradley Mysteries (1994–1999), Out of the Blue, Sherlock Holmes, The Street, and four series of Messiah with Ken Stott, along with occasional appearances in series such as Casualty, London's Burning and Lovejoy.

He appeared in the romantic comedy film Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, portraying the taxi driver who takes the title character to meet Mark Darcy (played by Colin Firth).

In 2007, Dudgeon appeared in the eponymous role of self-made millionaire Roman Pretty in the BBC2 sitcom Roman's Empire. In 2009, he appeared as a main character in BBC's Life of Riley, a series that recommissioned and premiered in April 2011, the same month that Dudgeon appeared in the TV drama United, which was based on the events of the 1958 Munich air disaster involving Manchester United.

In 2010, Dudgeon appeared in "The Sword of Guillaume," an ITV crime vizualization drama, starring Laurie Paddock. He was introduced in the episode as Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby's cousin, played by John Nettles, who later resigned from the role. After the last episodes starring John Nettles were broadcast in 2011, Dudgeon, also played as a senior detective, took over as the lead character in Midsomer Murders. Dudgeon's character name is DCI John Barnaby, which has been suggested as a way for continued sales to territories where the show is identified as "Inspector Barnaby." In the first episode of the fourth series ("Garden of Death"), Dudgeon appeared in Midsomer Murders for the first time as a secondary character.

Norman Birkett appeared in four plays written by Caroline and David Stafford based on Birkett's lives in 2012.

Why Midsomer Murders's Barnaby is TV's most maverick cop: He's happily married and untroubled by personal demons, but actor NEIL DUDGEON has a different theory

In contrast to so many TV coppers, Barnaby enjoys a happy marriage (to Sarah, played by Fiona Dolman, left) and is untroubled by personal demons. Pictured right: Neil Hendrix and Neil Dudgeon as DS Winter and Barnaby in Midsomer Murders.

Midsomer Murders slapped with 'content warnings' by ITV to ensure viewers are fully aware that the 'Killings' being carried out are not of the gentle sort

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 6, 2024
Midsomer Murders is one of Britain's best-loved television shows, regularly pulling in millions of viewers thanks to its bucolic scenes of rural life alongside a notoriously high body count. But now ITV is slapping content warnings on the long-running series to ensure viewers are fully aware that the 'Murders' being carried out are not of the gentle sort, and that episodes may contain 'violence' and even 'crime scene images'. Stars of the show are among those who have ridiculed the move, pointing out that the name of the drama, which has been on air since 1997, and the titles of individual episodes, make it clear what will happen.

Good golly, that's Holly on Midsomer Murders! Willoughby, the host, plays a realistic interpretation of herself in the sleepy crime drama

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 29, 2023
Holly Willoughby's life in the last few months has been a bit of drama. Fortunately, the most recent scenes were entirely fictional. On Sunday, the ITV presenter celebrated her acting debut - a performance in her favorite film, Midsomer Murders. In the psychic-themed episode of the ITV crime drama, she appeared alongside Neil Dudgeon as DCI John Barnaby.
