Early life
Negahban was born in Mashhad, Iran. When he was eight years old, he took a liking to the theater, sparking laughter from a large audience by portraying an elderly man on stage. He left Iran in 1985 when he was 17 for Turkey and then Germany, where he spent eight years. He worked in Germany for a theater company and then moved to the United States in 1993. He is fluent in English, German, and Persian. He also started learning French for his Legionary duties.
Career
He has appeared in The Shield, The West Wing, Lost, and CSI: Miami. He has worked with Iranian-American actress Necar Zadegan, both in 24, where his on-screen husband ordered his interrogation and torture of his relatives, and in CSI: Miami, where, as his wife, she murdered him.
In the TV series The Unit and the film The Stoning of Soraya M., where he plays the husband of Soraya (Marn)), Negahban also had two collaborations with another Iranian-American actress, Mozhan Marn. Negahban appeared and related to the character Dr. Challus Mercer in the survival horror game Dead Space in 2008. In the critically acclaimed television series Homeland, Negahban also appeared as a terrorist mastermind Abu Nazir. He received the Best Actor Award for the 2009 Iranian short film, Liberation at the Noor Iranian Film Festival in 2011, and in 2012, he returned to serve as a festival judge.
Negahban had started shooting Damascus Cover, based on Howard Kaplan's book, alongside Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Olivia Thirlby, and John Hurt, as reported in February 2015. Negahban was the role of Syrian General Sarraj. Negahban appeared as General Abdul Rashid Dostum in the 2018 war drama, 12 Strong, and he also appeared as Sultan in Aladdin's 2019 live-action version.
