Admitted to the bar, Nathaniel Pope entered private practice in Ste. Genevieve, Louisiana Territory (now Missouri) and across the Mississippi River in Kaskaskia, Indiana Territory (that became Illinois Territory from March 1, 1809) from 1804 to 1809.
