Nathan William Byrne (born 5 June 1992) is an English professional footballer who plays for Wigan Athletic.
He can play as either a wing back or a winger. Byrne began his professional career with Tottenham but never made a first team appearance for the club before leaving to join League One Swindon Town in 2013.
After two full seasons with the Robins, during which they reached the 2015 League One play-off Final, he was bought by Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers.
However, he only remained with the club for a year before moving on to Wigan Athletic.
Career
Byrne competed for St Albans City as a youth athlete before moving to Tottenham Hotspur in June 2010.
He was loaned out to Brentford, who was League One's loaned out in February 2011. He made his senior debut on February 26, beating Bristol Rovers by 77 minutes in a 1–0 home victory. He made his first appearance at Griffin Park on March 8th, defeating Brighton and Hove Albion 1–0. Manager Nicky Forster singled him out for praise for his work against Brighton.
Bournemouth, an English League One club, signed Byrne on loan until the end of the season. Byrne sustained an ankle injury in a game against Exeter on September 17th, putting him out of action until next year, so he stayed at Bournemouth for recovery. Byrne was recalled to Tottenham on February 22, 2012, the day before, after recovering from injury in a Spurs XI friendly.
On September 24, 2012, Crawley Town took over Byrne on loan until January 6, 2013. On September 29, 2012, he made 14 starts and 1 substitute appearance, scoring once, his first ever league goal, and his first league appearance.
Byrne signed for Swindon Town on a loan contract that will keep him at the County Ground for the remainder of the 2012-2013 season.
Following a fruitful loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur, Nathan agreed to join Swindon Town on a free transfer on April 26, 2013. He received a red card during extra time against Brentford in the second leg of the League One playoffs, defeating Swindon late in the first half to make the score 3–3.
Byrne made 43 appearances in the 2014-2015 season and helped Swindon make the play-offs. He has played 3 goals and 9 assists in the league as well as being named as the year's best team in the league.

Byrne joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in a three-year deal (with the possibility of a fourth year) for an undisclosed fee on September 1, 2015. He made his club debut on September 19th, 2015, against Brighton, in a goalless draw, and his first appearance at Fulham came later that month. On December 17, Byrne scored his first goal for the club, a late consolation in a 2–3 home loss to Leeds United. In a 2–1 win over Bristol City on 8 March 2016, his second and final goal for the club came at Molineux. Danny Batth's last-minute corner was to be his last appearance for the club as a late replacement in a 1–1 draw at eventual champions Burnley on March 19th.
Byrne departed on August 31, 2016, almost a year after joining Wolves and not being featured under new coach Walter Zenga, joining Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee in a three-year contract.
