Career
O'Dell began her television work as a reporter and anchor at WPDE-TV in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She spent time at WCBD-TV in Charleston, South Carolina, as both a morning news anchor and crime reporter. Although she was there, her observations on the lenient police approach to DUI cases culminated in a State Law Enforcement Division investigation that resulted in authorities issuing a more specific order in such cases. The Associated Press named her with the Best Report of the Year award (all media, South Carolina). In 1993, she joined NBC's WTVJ in Miami, co-anchoring Jackie Nespral's 5:30 p.m. news. In 1995, O'Dell left the station to go to Las Vegas. While there, she worked as an entertainment reporter for Aktuell Affair, a nationally syndicated tabloid newspaper newspaper, until the show was concluded in 1996.
When the program premiered in 1996, O'Dell joined Entertainment News Program Access Hollywood. O'Dell also contributed to NBC News' Today and Dateline NBC, in addition to her role as Access Hollywood's lead anchor. She covered such events as the Oscars, Emmys, Grammy Awards, and Golden Globe Awards, as well as co-hosting a variety of pre-shows and arrivals for the Emmys and Golden Globes.
In 2004, and 2005, O'Dell co-hosted the Miss USA and Miss Universe competitions. On WNBC from 2004 to 2006, she co-hosted the New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade. Drew Lachey, the Miss Universe 2006 pageant with Carlos Ponce, and Tim Vincent co-hosted the Miss USA 2007 pageant.
O'Dell appeared in minor roles in Charmed's (season 1 finale (1999) and season 5 premiere (2002). She appeared in The Simpsons' "Hello Gutter, Hello Fadder" (1999), voicing herself. She appeared in Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000), and Scream 4 (2011), as host and consultant for the USA Network talent competition Nashville Star for the first two seasons.

O'Dell had intended to be in the eighth season of Dancing with the Stars, partnering professional dancer Tony Dovolani, but she had to stop before the season started due to her meniscus tear during training; her replacement was Melissa Rycroft. On March 20, 2009, O'Dell underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair it.
In December 2009, O'Dell's departure from Access Hollywood was announced. She left the show with two years on her deal.
After the floods in May of this year, O'Dell hosted the Nashville Rising concert on June 22, 2010 to bring flood relief to Nashville residents. She and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill shared hosting duties.
On January 3, 2011, O'Dell joined Entertainment Tonight as a special reporter, and after Hart left the show in May 2011, she succeeded Mary Hart as co-anchor.
