Nana Meriwether (born May 24, 1985) is an American philanthropist, retired from active volleyball, and beauty pageant champion who was crowned Miss USA 2012.

She appeared at Miss USA 2012 and came in first runner-up.

Meriwether assumed the title Miss USA on December 19, 2012, after Olivia Culpo of Miss Universe 2012 claimed Miss Universe. She is also the cofounder of the Meriwether Foundation and a two-time All-American volleyball player at University of California, Los Angeles.

Life and career

Meriwether was born in Acornhoek, South Africa, on May 24, 1985. Delano Meriwether, the first African-American student at Duke University School of Medicine, is her father, while her mother, Nomvimbi Meriwether, is South African and works as a prosecutor. At the time of Meriwether's birth, her parents had been doing voluntary work in South Africa. She was born in Potomac, Maryland, and graduated from Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C.

Meriwether played volleyball at Duke University for one semester. She later graduated with a degree in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles, where she was named a two-time NCAA All-American volleyball player and earned a degree in political science. Meriwether played volleyball for Las Indias de Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, and trained for the United States women's national volleyball team for the 2008 Summer Olympics. She earned a bachelor's degree in pre-medical science at the University of Southern California.

Meriwether competed in her first pageant for the Miss Universe Organisation, Miss California USA 2008, representing Malibu, where she did not place in the semifinals, although she did not place in the semifinals. Meriwether returned to Miss California in 2009, this time representing Beverly Hills, where she finished third runner-up to Carrie Prejean. Meriwether was first runner-up to Nicole Johnson in Miss California USA 2010. She appeared in Miss California USA for the fourth time in 2011, when she finished fourth runner-up to Alyssa Campanella, who would go on to win Miss USA 2011.

Meriwether returned to Maryland, where she had been competing in Miss California for four years, and she became Miss Maryland USA in 2012. She captured the title and was granted the opportunity to represent the state at Miss USA.

Meriwether appeared in Miss USA 2012, where she eventually finished as the first runner-up to Olivia Culpo of Rhode Island. Olivia Culpo received the Miss Universe 2012 trophy on December 19, 2012. Miss USA must resign her position in order to fulfill her obligations as Miss Universe because of pageant procedure. Meriwether, the first runner-up, assumes the title of Miss USA, implying that she is the new Miss USA 2012. Meriwether was the youngest contestant to be crowned Miss USA at the age of 27, the oldest contestant to be crowned Miss USA at the age of 27, until Cheslie Kryst was crowned in 2019.

Meriwether is a cofounder of the Meriwether Foundation, which she and the members of her family run alongside. The organisation runs programmes in health, education, nutrition, and growth in rural and impoverished communities of Southern Africa. Meriwether served as an executive assistant to Glenda Bailey, Harper's Bazaar's editor-in-chief. She has worked for and contributed to Carine Roitfeld's CR Fashion Book, Vanity Fair, and Vogue Australia. Meriwether, a founder of Joseph Lubin, joined ConsenSys in 2018 where she helps develop decentralized businesses and applications for the Ethereum blockchain.
