Nadira Babbar (born 20 January 1948) is an Indian theatre actor, producer, and actress who appeared in Hindi cinema and received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2001.
In Gurinder Chadha's film Bride and Prejudice (2004), Nadira Babbar appeared in Ekjute, a well-known name in Hindi theatre, and M. F. Hussain's Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities (2004).
In Sunny Deol's 2016 film Ghayal Once More, she was also depicted as the mother of Salman Khan's Jai Ho and as the mother of Raj Bansal (key villain).
Early life
In 1971, she graduated from National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi. Nadira was a Gold Medalist at NSD and went to Germany on a scholarship, and after that she had the opportunity to work with respected directors such as Grotovisky and Peter Brooks.
Career
She formed her theatre company in Ekjute (Together), which was released in 1981 with Yahudi Ki Ladki, which revived the Parsi theatre style and is considered one of the country's finest performances. The group has also performed Jasma Odhan, a Bhavai-based musical written by Shanta Gandhi, for many years. In 1988, Nadira moved to Mumbai and reformed her theatre company.
