Mika Sue Boorem (born August 18, 1987) is an American actress and producer.

She began her career as a child actor, appearing on television in small guest roles on Touched by an Angel and Ally McBeal, before receiving critical acclaim for her role in The Education of Little Tree (1997).

Boorem had a leading role in the drama Hearts in Atlantis (2001), opposite Anton Yelchin and Anthony Hopkins, which earned her further critical acclaim. Following his appearance in The Patriot (2000) and the thriller Along Came a Spider (2001), Boorem went on to play supporting roles in the war drama The Patriot (2000) and the epic Along Came a Spider (2001).

She went on to appear in numerous teen films from the early to mid 2000s, including the surf film Blue Crush (2002), the comedy Sleepover (2004), and the drama Augusta, Gone (2006).

She appeared on Dawson's Creek as a regular guest star on the network from 2002 to 2003.

She appeared in numerous independent films, including key roles in John Carpenter's horror film The Ward (2010). Boorem made her debut with Hollywood.Con in 2018, starring Tom Arnold and Brian Krause.

Life and career

Boorem was born in 1987 at Carondelet St. Joseph's Hospital in Tucson, Arizona, to Holly (née Thomas) and Benjamin Boorem. Benjamin Jr., her older brother, has one older brother. Her father is a gemologist. She began acting in local theater in Arizona and then migrated to Los Angeles with her family, where she attended Le Lyce Français de Los Angeles, a French-English bilingual school.

Boorem's first television appearance after appearing as herself in Disney Sing-Along Songs' called Beach Party at Walt Disney World in 1995, she appeared on the program Touched by an Angel as a guest. That was followed by a supporting part of The Education of Little Tree (1997), which was based on Forrest Carter's tumultuous memoir. "She was a young friend of the titular Cherokee character," Film Journal International's David Noh said. She was nominated for a Young Artist Award for her work. In the 1997 pilot episode, Boorem appeared as a guest artist in the young Ally McBeal role. She appeared in A Walton Easter, a television film spin-off from The Waltons, which aired in the spring of 1997. She played later in the Christmas film Jack Frost (1998), starring Michael Keaton, for which she was nominated for the YoungStar Award for Best Actress in a Drama Film.

She appeared in Disney's live-action film Mighty Joe Young (1998), playing the young counterpart of Charlize Theron's character. She appeared on television again as a central cast member of the comedy series The Tom Show, which aired for one season between 1997 and 1998; in the series, she portrayed the daughter of a television executive, played by Tom Arnold. Boorem played a supporting role in the ensemble drama In late 1999, she appeared alongside Glenn Close and Cameron Diaz, opposite Glenn Close and Cameron Diaz.

Boorem was also involved in the Revolutionary War's cultural drama in 2000, playing the daughter of a soldier (portrayed by Mel Gibson). She was nominated for her third Young Artist Award as part of an ensemble cast for her appearance. She starred alongside Morgan Freeman and Anton Yelchin in the drama Along Came a Spider (2001), portraying the kidnapped daughter of a US senator. In Penny Marshall's period drama Riding in Cars with Boys (2001), a supporting role was introduced, as well as a younger sister of Kate Bosworth in the surf film Blue Crush (2002). Julia Stiles and Shirley MacLaine appeared in the romantic comedy Carolina in 2003. Boorem appeared on Dawson's Creek's sixth season from 2002 to 2003, portraying Harley Hetson. She received a Teen Choice Award nomination for her role on Choice TV Sidekick for her role.

Boorem appeared opposite Alexa Vega in the teen comedy Sleepover (2004), followed by a supporting role in Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (2004). Boorem played a teen from Malibu who befriends a young Chinese woman with a facial deformity, played by Yi Ding in the independent drama Smile (2005). Variety writer Justin Chang called the film a "well-meaning but dramatically lopsided tearjerker."

Boorem appeared in The Initiation of Sarah, an ABC Family television film and reissue of the 1978 horror film of the same name, as well as the television drama film Augusta, Gone, in which she portrayed a young drug addict. "... the meatiest part belongs to Mika Boorem," Sun-Sentinel's Tom Jicha wrote about her role in the film. Augusta Dudman, a 14-year-old with typical teenage insecurities and self-confidence problems, is one of the relative unknown actresses. Rain, the more advanced child of the streets, exposes Augusta to the temptations of drugs and sex, making her tempted to her more ferocious child. Boorem plays the role as if she's in it for more than a paycheck, which cannot be said of any of her co-stars." She appeared in the episode "Insensitive" as a youth suffering from CIPA, which prevents her from experiencing pain.

In 2008, she appeared in the series "Bloodline," and in the same year, she appeared in the drama "Boodline." In 2008, Boorem was also included in David Cook's music video "Light On" by the singer. In John Carpenter's psychological horror film The Ward, opposite Amber Heard and Danielle Panabaker, she appeared as the ghost of a psychiatric patient in 2010. Michael Rechtshaffen of the Hollywood Reporter described the film as "an economical period piece that still shows what a trained technician can do in a single location with a tight cast and strong old-school effects."

In the Armand Mastroianni thriller Dark Desire, Boorem appeared opposite Kelly Lynch in 2012. Boorem appeared in the 2013 short film Awake, which was then included in Minutes Past Midnight's 2016 horror anthology.

Boorem produced Love Thy Neighbor, a short film made in 2015, which earned her the Best Director award at the Hang Onto Your Shorts film festival in New Jersey. She made her Hollywood debut with Hollywood.Con (2021), an action-adventure comedy set in Guatemala starring Tom Arnold, Paige Howard, Devin Ratray, Brian Krause, and Cody Kasch, as well as Boorem herself.

Benjamin Boorem's father, Benjamin Boorem, wrote and produced Hollywood.Con was partly inspired by a trip to buy jade. In April 2019, Boorem attended a film festival in Arkansas, and students from the academy served as videographers for the premiere screening of Hollywood.Con on May 4, 2019.
