Mick Jenkins Life

Jayson Mick Jenkins (born April 16, 1991) is an American hip hop recording artist.

He is based in Chicago and has been signed to Cinematic Music Group.

On September 23, 2016, his debut album, The Healing Component, was released, followed by Pieces of a Man on October 26, 2018.

Early life and education

Jenkins was born in Huntsville, Alabama. Following his parents' divorce, he and his mother and sister moved to Chicago, Illinois, when he was nine years old. Jenkins was heavily influenced by his parents' musical tastes as a child. His mother listened to Neo-soul, while his father adored modern black gospel music. Jenkins was just 17 years old when he began attending Young Chicago Authors' open-mic activities, which attracts young writers. Mick Jenkins began participating in mock trials for the school's law academy in 2008. Following this opportunity, he went on to become a courthouse intern at Chicago's Dirksen Federal Building. Jenkins stopped his law schooling in 2009 after he became an apprentice at Sir & Madame, a clothing chain, and briefly became a young fashion mogul. He returned to Huntsville later this year to attend Oakwood University and later served 34 days for a misdemeanour conviction. Oakwood is a private college that is affiliated with the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Jenkins participated in a rap competition in sophomore year at the university, where the prize was a pair of Beats By Dre headphones. Jenkins did not win the competition, but it did lead to him discovering a passion for making music. Jenkins ultimately dropped out of Oakwood after his father lost his career at the school, which meant tuition was no longer affordable. Jenkins claims to have dropped five mixtapes when they were young, but he later disregarded them and barred them from internet access. The Mickstape and The Pursuit of Happiness are both available. The Story of MickalasCage is, however, is still available. Jenkins pleaded guilty of a misdemeanor charge for smoking marijuana. He spent 34 days in prison in Alabama before returning to Chicago to concentrate on music.

Mick Jenkins Career

Musical career

Jenkins' first official mixtape, The Mickstape, was released on January 13, 2012, and The Pursuit of Happiness: The Story of Mickalascage was published in August 2012. Several recording artists, such as After the Smoke, Swisha House, Chris Calor, Quincy Banks, Chuck Inglish, Vanilla, and Dijon were among others, were among the many on this series, including After the Smoke, Swisha House, Swisha House, Chris Calor, Quincy Banks, Chuck Inglish, Vanilla, and Dijon. Jenkins returned to Chicago and joined the YCA (Young Chicago Authors), a poetry group where he performed his first cappella verse. Local recording artist and Saba's leader brought much notice. The two then collaborated on a Heaux project, which was supposed to be a Mick Jenkins initiative, but ended up on Saba's mixtape GETCOMFORTABLE (2012). Jenkins has also become a member of Free Nationals, a hip-hop group. Prop, J-Stock, Burman, and Maine are among the Saint's others who participated. Free Nationals is "a hip hop group that promotes critical thought without compromising narrow viewpoints enforced by the powers that be."

Jenkins' Trees & Truths mixtape was released in April 2013. The tape was quickly becoming a local favorite, with acid jazz-influenced music, biblical allegory, and his lacerating lyricism. Chance The Rapper and Vic Mensa formed a joint venture in Chicago that attracted both curiosity and admiration only a few months after its debut.

Jenkins' single and a snapshot of Martyrs, which contrasted knowledge of difficult societal truths with a catchy hook, attracted a lot of attention in July 2014. The thought-provoking single delivered remarks on gun violence, the struggle between his convictions and new-found triumph, and his turbulent childhood in Chicago. Martyrs, as well as Timbaland, encouraged Jenkins to reach out and praise him for his musical ability and intricate lyricism. Jenkins' project, The Water[s], received critical acclaim on August 12, worldwide. The Water[s] project, which is seen by several as Jenkins' breakout project, is based on the idea of comparing water to life's truths. Jenkins revealed shortly after completing the project, he would be touring with Method Man, Redman, B-Real, Trademark da Skydiver, and Berner during the fall on the 2014 Smoker's Club World Wide Roller's Tour. Kirk Knight, Noname, and Saba were among his first official tours to take place in February 2015. Joey Bada$$$ and Denzel Curry were also on hand for Phase 1 of their World Domination Tour, where they met him alongside Joey Bada$$ and Denzel Curry.

Mick Jenkins' Wave[s] EP, which was released on August 20, 2015, was released on July 20, 2015. On August 13, 2015, Mick Jenkins started streaming his latest venture in full on NPR's First Listener. The Wave[s] is Jenkins' critically acclaimed 2014 mixtape [The Water[s] is the sequel to Jenkins' critically acclaimed The Water[s]. Jenkins kept the collaborators on Wave[s] restricted to those within his own circle. The project features Jean Deaux, Saba, TheMind, and other well-known designers, such as Kaytranada. Jenkins appeared on STWO, a French producer, from the end of August to the start of October.

Mick Jenkins' debut album, Spread Love, was released on August 17, 2016. Jenkins' second single on the record, "Drowning," features an instrumental performed by Toronto-based jazz quartet BADBADNOTGOOD. Eric Garner, a black man strangled by police, was the subject of the song's direct link to his death. On September 23, 2016, the album, The Healing Component, was released. Many of the songs on the albums feature intros and outros, as well as a discussion about love with a female narrator's sister. The Healing Component, or THC, is an abbreviated THC extract from the album's archive, exploring the theme of passion throughout the collection. He compares different ways love can take from self-love to intimate encounters. Jenkins did something similar on The Water[s], investigating the possibility of truth.

Mick Jenkins published Or More; The Anxious, the first mixtape in a sequence of projects Jenkins describes as "a project series involving musical inspirations and concepts that are currently inspiring the album's making process." Or More; The Frustration, the second mixtape in the series, was released on February 24, 2018. Pieces of a Man, his second studio album, was released on October 26.
