Michael Stanley (born March 25, 1948 as Michael Stanley Gee) is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and radio presenter.
Both as a solo artist and as part of the Michael Stanley Band (MSB), his brand of heartland rock was in vogue in Cleveland, Ohio, and the American Midwest in the 1970s and 1980s.
Early life, family, and education
In 1966, Michael Stanley Gee graduated from Rocky River High School. He attended Hiram College on a baseball scholarship and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1970.
Personal life
Stanley was married four times from 1970 to 1990, when they divorced; Mary McCrone, a television actress, from 2002 to 2011; and finally to Denise Glanzberg, an elementary school instructional aide, from 2017 to 2021. Anna and Sarah, both born in 1974, have five children.
Career
Michael Stanley was in college with Silk (originally called the Tree Stumps) who released an album, Smooth As Raw Silk on ABC Records in 1969.
Michael Stanley, Stanley's first solo album on Tumbleweed Records in 1973, just a few years since his graduation while working as a regional manager for a record store chain. Bill Szymczyk's album was released in Poland and featured contributions from Joe Walsh, Todd Rundgren, Rick Derringer, and Joe Vitale. "Rosewood Bitters," Stanley's first song, would become a life staple and was later released by Walsh in 1985. Friends and Legends, Stanley's second solo album, which was released on MCA Records later this year, featured participation from members of Barnstorm and Stephen Stills' Manassas, including Anthony Walsh, Vitale, Kenny Passarelli, Paul Harris, Joe Lala, Dan Fogelberg, J. Geils, and Richie Furay.
Jonah Koslen, a former Glass Harp bassist Daniel Pecchio, and drummer Tommy Dobeck from the band Circus were among the Michael Stanley Band's members formed by Stanley in 1974. Throughout the years, the group had diversified into a seven-piece band by 1982.
The band set several attendance records at Cleveland's venues, including a record 20,320 at the Richfield Coliseum on July 20, 1979, and a record 40,529 on January 1, 1982. During a four-night stand at Blossom Music Center on August 25, 26, 30, 1982, the band's highest success was a total attendance of 74,404.
On Billboard's Top Tracks chart, the group reached its highest point of their fame nationally in 1981, when the single "He Can't Love You" from the album Heartland (written and sung by keyboardist Kevin Raleigh) reached the top 40 (#33 Billboard, #27 Cash Box) and "In the Heartland" from the album North Coast hit the Top 40. The 47th video for "He Can't Love You" was ever seen on MTV, according to their video. In 1983, the band's last Top 40 hit was "My Town." Since 1986, the Ohio State University Marching Band has performed "My Town." In Ohio Stadium, the all-brass and percussion system is a favorite.
During the 1986–87 holiday season, the band dissolved in 1987 with a series of 12 farewell shows at the Front Row Theater in Highland Heights, Ohio (suburban Cleveland).

Stanley served as the co-host of PM Magazine from 1987 to 1990, as well as its sequel, Cleveland Tonight, 1991. He appeared on The Drew Carey Show as himself on several occasions.
Stanley was the afternoon drive disc jockey for Cleveland's historic rock radio station WNCX from 1990 to 2021, a short time on Cleveland radio station WMMS.
He appeared on Howard Stern Radio Show During one of his Birthday Shows in 1993 and later played Rosewood Bitters with Joe Walsh.
Stanley continued to write, record, and perform with bands after the breakup of the Michael Stanley Band, such as Michael Stanley and Friends, the Resonators, and Midlife Chryslers.
