Michael Mancienne Career

Club career

Mancienne was born in Feltham, London, and was spotted by Chelsea as a nine-year-old playing for Kingstonian and made his Chelsea debut for the Chelsea Reserves while still in school. He started a career in January 2006 and was called into the bench for the final match of the 2005–06 season, but the bench was empty.

In the 2006 Community Shield against Liverpool and the first two Premier League games of the 2006–07 season against Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers, he was part of Chelsea's pre-season tour of the United States and started the season on the bench; in the 2006 Community Shield against Liverpool and the first two Premier League games of the 2006–07 season. Despite this, it will be more than two years before he will play for the Blues in a competitive game, prompting him to admit that he may have to move forward for the sake of his career.

He made his Chelsea debut on February 14, 2009, starting a FA Cup match against Watford after getting some playing time with spells on loan at Championship sides Queens Park Rangers and Wolverhampton Wanderers. He made his European debut 11 days later as a late replacement in a UEFA Champions League knockout tie against Juventus, which ended 1–0 to Chelsea. In a 2–1 victory over Wigan Athletic on February 28, he made his Premier League debut on his debut in the Premier League.

He was named Young Player of the Year at the conclusion of the 2008–09 season, in which he made his only first team appearances for the team to date.

In August 2009, he signed a new Chelsea deal that will come to an end in June 2013.

Mancienne played his first glimpse of league football during a loan spell with Queens Park Rangers in late 2006, when he joined them for the remainder of the 2006–07 season. He appeared in the majority of his 28 games on the Championship team, but he also played a few times in his preferred center-back position. His extraordinary appearances made him a hit among the QPR supporters, who voted him runner-up in the Supporters' Young Player of the Year competition.

He decided to stay on loan at QPR for the 2007–08 season after signing a new deal extension with his parent club.

Mancienne was turned down on loan when he joined promotion-chasing Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan until December 29, 2008. Wolves' loan was protracted by a month, but the paperwork regarding the extension was never complete, and his parent club recalled him.

He rejoined the Wolves on a season's loan for the 2009–10 season, the first time the Wolves had won promotion to the Premier League by this time. During the season, he was playing center back and in a defensive midfield role, assisting the club in surviving their first season back to the top level.

He returned to Molineux for the third season in a row, during which he made his third appearance for the Midlands club. He sustained a patella tendon injury in December that kept him out for three months before returning to the club for the club's final six games, barely avoiding the drop.

Mancienne agreed to a four-year contract with German Bundesliga club Hamburger SV for a fee in the region of £1.752 million. When the transfer window opened on July 1, 2011, he was reunited with former Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen. In a 3–1 loss to reigning champions Borussia Dortmund on August 5, he made his debut for the club on August 5th.

Mancienne joined Nottingham Forest on a three-year contract, reuniting with England U21 boss Stuart Pearce on July 16, 2014. Danny Fox, a centre-half on his debut against Blackpool on August 9, made his first appearance against Blackpool on August 9th, starting at centre-half. He remained on the full ninety minutes of Forest's victory by 2–0, winning the Man of the Match award in the process. Mancienne was suspended in his second game for the club after two unconstitutional offences in Forest's League Cup match against Tranmere Rovers on August 12th. In a 1–0 away victory over Sheffield Wednesday, following his suspension, he returned to the team and was named Man of the Match once more.

Mancienne signed a two-year contract with Nottingham Forest, which is now owned by Mark Warburton, on April 28, 2017. The player is believed to have agreed to a reduced salary in order to remain at the club the day before Mancienne made his 100th appearance in all competitions for the club, defeating QPR 2–0.

Mancienne captained Forest for the first League match of the 2017-18 season after defeating Millwall 1–0.

Mancienne joined the New England Revolution in Major League Soccer on August 3rd. His reported salary of $1.28 million in 2018 and $881,676 in 2019, made him not only the highest-paid defense in the league at the time but also the highest-paid defensive player in the team's history.

Following the 2020 season, New England chose not to pursue Mancienne's contract option.

Mancienne joined Burton Albion in League One on February 20, 2021, and he will continue to work until the 2020-21 season.

Mancienne signed a one-year deal with Burton Albion on June 9, 2022. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, the 2022–23 season's opening day, announced that he would be out for three months due to a knee injury.

International career

Mancienne, as his father, Michael Snr, arose from there and is a former Seychelles international midfielder, is eligible to play for the Seychelles. In 2006, he turned down the opportunity to compete for the Seychelles national team in favour of his home country. However, he did not say in November 2008 that he would play for Seychelles if he did not get to play for England before he approaches his 25th birthday.

Fabio Capello surprisingly selected him in the England squad for a international friendly match against Germany in Berlin on November 15th. Despite this, he didn't appear in the game.

Since making his England debut against Romania on August 21, 2007, he was an England regular at under-21 level. He was a member of the 2009 European Championships team. However, his tournament was a disappointment as he received a red card in their first group match against Finland.

He has appeared for England at under-16, under-17, under-19, and under-21 levels.

He was named up to the Seychelles National Team for the 2022 COSAFA Cup in 2022. On July 5th, he made his Botswana debut against Botswana.
