Michael Jeter Career

Career

Jeter's eerie appearance, extreme flexibility, and high energy prompted Tommy Tune to play him in the 1981 off-Broadway play Cloud 9. As in The Fisher King, Waterworld, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Green Mile and Drop Zone, a large portion of his work was specialized in playing eccentric, pretentious, or wimpy characters. Jeter was able to stray away from these types of roles for more complex characters such as those portrayed in Jurassic Park III, Air Bud, and Open Range occasionally. Jeter is perhaps best known for his role as convicted felon Eduard Delacroix in The Green Mile, a role for which he was nominated along with the rest of the cast for a Screen Actor Guild Award. He appeared in Patch Adams as Rudy.

"an unidentified homeless cabaret singer" and "shimmies across the screen with boundless enthusiasm, transforming what may have been a grotesque, or even insignificant, part into something noble, even indomitable" in Fisher King Jeter's "turns of a grotesque, or at least amusing, part into something noble, albeit indomitable. Jeter appears to be bigger than anyone in a film that has been afraid of big acting.

Mister Noodle, Mr. Noodle's brother, appeared on Sesame Street from 2000 to 2003. Gus, an insurance salesman who arrives in Las Vegas in the episode "The Man Upstairs," appeared in an episode touched by an Angel in 1999. His last two appearances were in the films Open Range and The Polar Express. Both films were in post-production at the time of his death and, when they were announced, contained a nod to his memory. The season 35 premiere of Sesame Street, a special called "The Street We Live On," was dedicated to Jeter.

Jeter received a Tony Award in 1990 for his appearance in the Broadway musical Grand Hotel. In 1992, he received an Emmy Award for his work on the television sitcom Evening Shade as a math teacher and assistant football coach Herman Stiles. He has also been given an Outer Critics Circle Award, Drama Desk Award, and the Clarence Derwent Prize.
