Career

Brooks holds a PhD in Quantum Physics from the University of Sussex. He was previously an editor for New Scientist magazine, and currently works as a consultant for that magazine. His writing has appeared in The Guardian, The Independent, The Observer, The Times Higher Education Supplement, and Playboy. His first novel, Entanglement, was published in 2007. His first non-fiction book, an exploration of scientific anomalies entitled 13 Things That Don't Make Sense, was published in 2009. The book expands an article that Brooks wrote for New Scientist.

Brooks' next book, The Big Questions: Physics, was released in February 2010. It contains twenty 3,000-word essays addressing the most fundamental and frequently asked questions about science.

Brooks appeared as a regular guest on George Lamb's BBC Radio 6 Music show. His slot on the show, entitled Weird Science, features weird and wonderful stories from the world of science.

Brooks currently co-presents the podcast Science(ish) with UK presenter Rick Edwards which explores the science behind the movies.

Ford recalls 43,000 SUVs over gas leaks which cause fires - is YOURS affected?

Ford is recalling more than 40,000 small SUVs amidst fears of gas leaks which have already caused five fires. The recall covers certain Bronco Sport SUVs from the 2022 and 2023 model years as well as Escape SUVs from 2022. All 42,652 have 1.5-liter engines. In documents filed to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) , Ford said the fuel injectors can leak causing gas to leak into ignition sources and possibly spark fires. The company said it has received reports of five under hood fires and 14 warranty replacements of fuel injectors - but no reports of crashes or injuries.

According to reports, a Tesla Cybertruck owner crashed into a pole when the vehicle refused to slow down or brake. The truck's stainless steel body panels were corroded, including the hood, bumper, front fascia, and fender. The driver confirmed that they were not hurt, but that they did get whiplash. Tesla has been plagued by regenerative brake problems for years, but it is not clear what caused the incident.
