Michael Bay Career

Career

Bay got his start in film by working with George Lucas when he was 15 and drafted the storyboards for Raiders of the Lost Ark, which he hated. After seeing it in the theater, his opinion changed, and he was so impressed by the experience that he decided to become a film director. In 1986, he graduated from Wesleyan University, majoring in both English and film. He was a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity and a favorite film historian Jeanine Basinger. He studied film at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, where he also studied film.

Bay began filming at Propaganda Films, directing commercials and music videos two weeks after finishing his postgraduate degree. Capitol Records recognized his 90-second Coca-Cola commercial as a result of World War II. His first national commercial was for the Red Cross, which received a Clio Award in 1992. "Got Milk," directed Goodby, Silverstein & Partners' "Got Milk." In 1993, ad campaign for the California Milk Processors Board began, which also received a Grand Prix Clio Award for Commercial of the Year.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson, who had chosen Bay to produce his first feature-length film, Bad Boys, were attracted attention thanks to his success in music videos. It was shot in Miami in 1994 and starred Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Smith, who was going from television to television at the time, was a breakout star in the action film. Bay's shooting in Miami was a positive experience, considering that the city is a long time resident and spent a lot of time there. In the summer of 1995, the film was completed for $19 million and grossed a whopping $141 million. Bay's success culminated in a close relationship and friendship with Jerry Bruckheimer.

Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage, and Ed Harris starred in The Rock (1996), an action film set on Alcatraz Island and in the San Francisco Bay area. Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson, the latter of whom died five months before its publication, produced it. The film is dedicated to him. At the MTV Movie Awards in 1997, Connery and Cage received 'Best On-Screen Duo,' and Greg P. Russell's film was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Achievement in Sound category for Greg P. Russell's work. Bay founded his production company Bay Films after the success of The Rock, along with a Disney two-picture contract.

Bay collaborated with Jerry Bruckheimer again in 1998, this time as a co-producer as well as directing the action-adventure film Armageddon. Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton, Ben Affleck, and Liv Tyler starred in the film about a group of tough oil drillers who are sent by NASA to deflect an asteroid from a collision course with Earth. It was nominated for four Oscars at the 71st Academy Awards, including Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Editing, and Best Original Song. On its first day, it earned $9.6 million and $36.5 million during the first weekend. Its budget of $140 million was one of the highest of the summer 1998. Its highest-grossing film of the year, earning over $553 million worldwide.

Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett, Kate Beckinsale, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. appeared in Pearl Harbor, 2001. In 2001, it was launched on Memorial Day weekend and was revived by Bay with Jerry Bruckheimer. It received four Academy Award nominations, including Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Editing, and Best Song. Kevin O'Connell was nominated for Best Sound again this year, but he did not win. Pearl Harbor was named in the category of Sound Editing, making it Bay's first (and to date, only) film to win an Academy Award. Bay also produced the music video for the nominated track "There You'll Be" by vocal artist Faith Hill's nominated track "There You'll Be."

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence co-starred in Bad Boys II, Bay's fifth collaboration with Jerry Bruckheimer. It earned $138 million domestically, enough to cover the production budget, and $273 million globally, almost twice as much as the first film. Bay produced The Island, a science fiction film starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson in 2005. It was the first film Bay produced without Jerry Bruckheimer as a producer. It cost $126 million to produce and earned $36 million domestically and $127 million overseas, worth a total of $163 million. Bay said he was not comfortable with the domestic marketing campaign, because it confused the audience about the film's true subject.

In 2007, he collaborated with executive producer Steven Spielberg to direct Transformers, a live action film based on the Transformers franchise. It was launched in July 2007 and by the end of the year, it had earned over $709 million worldwide.

Bay was hired as the director and executive producer of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which was released on June 24, 2009 and has earned over $832 million worldwide. Despite receiving mainly critical feedback from critics, including vocally critical reviews by American film critics such as Roger Ebert, Michael Phillips, and David Denby (who referred to Bay as "stunningly, almost fatally, untalled"), the film was well received by its intended audience and was one of the highest-grossing of 2009. It received seven Golden Raspberry Award nominations in 2010, including Worst Picture, Worst Film, and Worst Screenplay. It was also one of the best selling DVD and Blu-ray Discs of 2009, second only to Twilight in DVD format, and the first of all time in Blu-ray format until it was demolished by Blu-ray sales of James Cameron's Avatar in April 2010.

Transformers by Bay: Dark of the Moon, Bay's 2011 film, was released on June 29, 2011, grossing $1.123 billion globally. Pain & Gain, his next film, was a rather small one that he had been working on for years. The true crime tale, based on events highlighted in Pete Collins' Miami New Times article, is concerned with a group of bumbling bodybuilders banding together to commit a robbery. It starred Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, Anthony Mackie, Tony Shalhoub, and Ed Harris.

I Am Number Four by Bay, based on a sequence of books by Pittacus Lore published by HarperCollins Children's Books, is based on a DreamWorks book. D. J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia) directed.

In June 2014, a Bay-directed Transformers film Transformers: Age of Extinction was released. Its founding, Mark Wahlberg, generated $1.1 billion at the global box office. Paramount Pictures, a Bay-owned and directed film, released 13 Hours on January 12, 2016. It was based on the 2012 Benghazi attack. While Bay's career as an assistant appeared on television, the company went on to record huge DVD sales on its digital release in May 2016, grossing over $40 million in home video sales.

Bay was honoured at The TCL Chinese Theatre on May 23, 2017. Rebel, his English mastiff, took his paw in the cement with him.

Transformers: The Last Knight, Bay's fifth Transformers film as producer, was released on June 21, 2017. The franchise's lowest opening, which was also the lowest in the world, brought $68.5 million in the five-day North American opening weekend, earning $605 million worldwide. Bay said it would be his last Transformers film as director in a Rolling Stone interview in 2016.

Bay would produce 6 Underground, starring Ryan Reynolds, Mélanie Laurent, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Adria Arjona, Corey Hawkins, Ben Hardy, and Dave Franco. It was released on December 13, 2019. Bay also agreed to direct Black 5 for Sony Pictures in August. However, the film, which was supposed to debut in 2020, was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Bay later moved to direct Ambulance.

Demi Moore, Craig Robinson, Paul Walter Hauser, and Peter Stormare appeared in the pandemic-themed thriller Songbird, which was released in Bay. Little America, the dystopian drama, was supposed to film in California sometime in 2020. He is likely to be the director of Little America.

Bay requested financial compensation from film studio Paramount Pictures for inadvertently limiting his income in 2021, as a result of Paramount's closing of A Quiet Place Part II's theatrical-only run from 90 to 45 days due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. As is customary, Bay, and other designers, as well as actors for the film, receive compensation in a part based on box-office success, and exclusivity in the theatrical run was affected by the lower's exclusivity.

Bay's next film, Ambulance 2022, stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Eiza González. It comes after two bank robbers hijacked an ambulance and take two hostages. Universal Pictures acquired a photo during the COVID-19 pandemic in Los Angeles on April 8, 2022.

Will Smith gets speeding ticket for going 63mph in a 45mph zone on dangerous stretch of Malibu highway where 58 people have died in past 14 years

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 26, 2024
On Friday night, Will Smith felt the need for speed as he drove down the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. On a stretch of the scenic highway that is quite dangerous, the Hitch star, 55, was clocked going 63 in a 45mph speed limit zone. Over the last 14 years, 58 people have died on that stretch of PCH, so Will's stardom didn't help him get out of the speed Ticket. On that stretch of the oceanside highway, the California Highway Patrol has no patience for speed demons. Four Pepperdine University students were killed in October 2023 after a BMW lost control while going 104 miles per hour and slammed into the young women.

A sign of things to come? How television and films were affected by WGA 2008 Strikes, including 007's scripting nightmare, Scrubs' demise, and Channing Tatum's biggest shame

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 22, 2023
From November 2007 to February 2008, the last WGA strike lasted 14 weeks. A legion of TV shows and movies are being affected by the tighter rules and regulations as the Writer Guild of America unites once more in a strike that began in May and continues to progress. The strike had a major effect on Hollywood in 2007, as a number of movies that had been highly praised for excellence were met with lacklustre reviews and mediocre finished results due to the time's stringent guidelines.
