Max Martin Career

Life and career

Sandberg was born and grew up in Stenhamra, Ekerö Municipality, Stockholm County. His mother was a middle school coach and his father was a police officer. Martin, a child of Sweden's public music-education system, once said he had "public music education to thank for everything."

He performed in a variety of bands as an adult before joining It's Alive in 1985 as their drummer and frontman. It's Alive was started by ex-Lazy members Per Per Aldeheim and Kim Björkgren on guitars, as well as John Rosth, who had been a member of Lineout. Martin White was forced to leave high school to pursue a life in music with his band. It's Alive, a national talent competition, was a resident of a nightclub in Cyprus in 1988. As Megarock Records' Dave Constable said, the band had a breakthrough in 1991, when they were pushed to make a demo record. The Metal Forces magazine first released 1,000 copies and later gave it away as a free cover tape in the United Kingdom.

The decision to focus on a music career paid off, as they signed a BMG affiliate Denniz PoP's label Cheiron Records, which is a BMG affiliate. They released three singles on conjunction with the album and toured through Europe in 1994, with Kingdom Come. Despite being distributed in up to 30 countries, Earthquake Visions eventually sold a disappointing 30,000 copies. Martin is now collaborating on songs with PoP, but it's more significant. PoP renamed his new protégé Max Martin, who later became Martin's mentor, acknowledging his natural knack for writing pop songs in the young rocker.

Martin was recruited by Cheiron Studios in 1993 and spent some time learning the basics before beginning to work together with PoP and Martin in 1994: the Rednex song "Wish You Were Here." They were both on Ace of Base's second album, The Bridge (1995), shortly after, as well as on CDs from 3T, Army of Lovers, and Leila K. Anders Hansson replaced Martin after he left his band It's Alive in late 1995.

Backstreet Boys' self-titled debut album Backstreet Boys (1995) was recruited by Zomba in 1995. Since the 1995 triumph, Zomba has been the main working partner. Martin was instrumental in the creation of "Quit Playing Games (with My Heart)" (1996), co-written with Herbie Crichlow, a single that quickly rose to No. 1 and climbed to No. 1). The Billboard Hot 100 features two people, as well as the singles "As Long As You Love Me" (1997) and "Everybody" (1998). The album was not released in the United States until 1997, but it was soon exported and sold all around Europe, with some selling around 8 million copies worldwide. The Backstreet Boys were relaunched in their home country later this year, this time more successfully. Martin co-wrote and co-produced Robyn's hits "Show Me Love" and "Do You Know (What It Takes), which debuted on Billboard Hot 100's top ten hits later this year, and has remained at number ten.

Cheiron Productions appeared on albums by Five and Jessica Folcker in 1998. Jessica Folcker was hired as a back-up singer on tracks with Ace of Base and Dr. Alban, and her debut album Jessica was a big hit with singles like "Tell Me What You Like" and "How Will I Know Who You Are," which both sold platinum. After Denniz PoP's death from cancer the same summer, Martin took over as director of Cheiron Studios. Rami Yacoub, a writer/producer who continued to be his partner for many years, rejoined him soon. During this period, Martin also wrote two songs with Bryan Adams, "Cloud Number Nine" and "Before The Night Is Over."

Celine Dion wrote "That's the Way It Is" in late 1999, a Celine Dion song co-written by Max Martin to promote her greatest hits album All the Way... A Decade of Song. The song became a hit in the United States and Canada, and it has risen to number one on the adult contemporary charts in the United States and Canada, with a top ten in the world. Since the song was released in November 1999, it has appeared on almost 1400 radio stations around Canada and the United States. Martin co-wrote and performed three songs on Dion's album One Heart in 2003. One of them, called "Faith," was released in 2003 as a promotional single in Canada and debuted at number 4 on the Quebec Airplay Chart and number 37 on the Canadian Adult Contemporary Chart.

"I Need You" by Martin, Andreas Carlsson, and Rami Yacoub was the first Westlife song "Westlife" (1999). For Westlife's second album Coast to Coast (2000), Martin, Nick Jarl, Steve Mac, and Patric Jonsson wrote "You Make Me Feel." For their second album Coast to Coast (2000), Max Martin, Rami Yacoub, and Andreas Carlsson wrote "When You're Looking Like That," one of Westlife's hits.

Martin wrote, co-wrote, and co-produced 7 of the 12 songs on the Backstreet Boys' third album Millennium (1999), which also includes all the singles. Martin co-wrote with Andreas Carlsson and co-produced with Kristian Lundin, the group's most popular hit song to date, and it's still popular today. Was "I Want It That Way" was nominated No. "10 Greatest Pop Songs" is ranked ten in the MTV/Rolling Stone list of the "100 Greatest Pop Songs." The song was ranked number three in a VH1 special, "100 Greatest Songs of the 1990s," putting it at the top of the charts for male-band singles and pop songs. Millennium's first week in the United States sold over 1.1 million units, setting a record for the most albums sold in its debut week (that record was later defeated by NSYNC's 2000 album No Strings Attached) and was the world's best-selling album. Lisa Miskovsky wrote the lyrics for the Backstreet Boys' hit single "Shape of My Heart," which will be released on Stockholm Records in 2001. When Miskovsky decided that it did not suit her style, Miskovsky's own album was passed on to the Backstreet Boys by Max Martin. The song became the first single from the band's fourth album Black & Blue (2000). "Shape of My Heart" soared to the top five in Sweden, Norway, Canada, Germany, and other 15 countries in the first week of publication. Black & Blue, which featured several songs created and written by Martin, sold 1.6 million units in its first week in America. Both in 2000 and 2001, Martin was named "Songwriter of the Year" by ASCAP. Brian Littrell, a Backstreet Boys member, invited Martin to perform on their album "In A World Like This." The single reached No. 6 in the Oricon chart, and it did a good job in the rest of the world. Martin appeared on the Never Gone songs "Climbing the Walls," "Just Want You to Know," "Siberia," and "I Still..." With a little R&B, Martin wanted the album to be more of a modern, alternative pop album. The resulting album had a more organic sound style with more live instruments, and it was a departure from the Backstreet Boys' earlier recordings.

Martin wrote and co-produced Spears' debut single, "Baby One More Time," for her debut album of the same name in 1998. The single was originally released to the Backstreet Boys and TLC, but they did not go for it. Martin co-wrote and co-produced the third single "You Drive Me Crazy" earlier this year. The album...Baby One More Time's First In the United States, it had sold over 15 million copies by 1999, establishing Diamond Status. In addition,...Baby One More Time had become the best-selling LP by a teenager in history, selling more than 30 million copies within a year of its introduction. Spears appeared in In the Zone (2003) and Blackout (2007). Martin produced and wrote for Spears' sixth studio album Circus (2008) at Spears' behest.
