Matthew Moran (born 15 May 1969) is an Australian chef and restaurateur best known for being a guest on several TV cooking shows.

Early life

Moran was born on a dairy farm in Badgerys Creek, west of Sydney, before heading to Seven Hills, a northern suburb. Moran left Grantham High School to pursue a career as a chef at age 15. He spent weekends in the Parramatta RSL Club's kitchen while still attending school. Moran began his apprenticeship at La Belle Helene Restaurant on Sydney's North Shore, and it was here that Moran learned classical French cooking.

Personal life and honours

Moran is married to lawyer Sarah Hopkins, and the pair have a son and daughter.

Moran was named Member of the Order of Australia in June 2022 for "significant contribution to the tourism and hospitality industries as well as charitable organisations."

Television career

Moran is also well-known as a celebrity chef on several television cooking shows. The Chopping Block first appeared on the Nine Network on February 6, 2008. Moran himself hosted it and was produced by Granada Productions. It was a two-part series of 8 episodes each. Moran appeared as a judge on the 3rd season of MasterChef Australia in 2011.

Moran also appeared in the television show Paddock to Plate, which premiered on Foxtel on September 3rd. Moran and Maggie Beer were proclaimed as the judges of the second season of The Great Australian Bake Off, which premiered on LifeStyle Food on June 13th.
