Mark-Paul Gosselaar Life

Mark-Paul Gosselaar (born March 1, 1974) is an American actor.

He is best known for his television appearances as Zack Morris, Detective John Clark Jr. in NYPD Blue, and Peter Bash in Franklin & Bash.

He was the lead in the 1998 film Dead Man on Campus and appeared in the 2016 television series Pitch.

In the 2019 TV series The Passage, he was the lead actor.

In the ABC sitcom series Mixed-ish, the prequel series of Black-ish, Gosselaar currently plays Paul Johnson (Rainbow's father).

Early life

Gosselaar was born in Panorama City, Los Angeles, and his uncle Paula (née van den Brink), a homemaker and hostess for KLM, and Hans Gosselaar, a plant manager for Anheuser-Busch, was born. He is the youngest of his parents' four children and was the first one not born in the Netherlands.

His Dutch-born father is of German and Dutch Jewish descent. Hartog and Hester Gosselaar, Gosselaar's Jewish paternal grandparents, were murdered at the Sobibor extermination camp during the Holocaust. His Indonesian mother, who was born in Bali, Indonesia, was a flight attendant for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

Gosselaar has described himself as "half-Asian" and has mentioned buying products from Indonesia.

Gosselaar speaks Dutch and was fluent at home for a time. His parents were then divorced.

His mother, Gosselaar's, was his boss. He started modeling at the age of five, and as an infant, he appeared in advertisements for Oreo cookies and Smurf merchandise, later winning guest spots on television shows. He spent his teenage years in the Santa Clarita Valley, California, where he attended Hart High School.

Gosselaar has said that his natural hair color is brown, but that he is "blondish" as a child. Throughout his tenure on Saved by the Bell, his hair was dyed blond.

Personal life

Gosselaar revealed that while Saved by the Bell was on film, he dated, at different times, his three female co-stars: Lark Voorhies, Tiffani Thiessen, and Elizabeth Berkley. He and his Saved by the Bell coworkers are still friends.

Gosselaar married former model Lisa Ann Russell in 1996. They have two children, Michael Charles (born 2004) and Ava Lorenn (born 2006). Gosselaar and Russell announced their separation in early June 2010. Gosselaar filed for divorce on June 18, 2010 and it became final in May 2011.

Gosselaar was hired by advertising executive Catriona McGinn in August 2011. They married at the Sunstone winery in Santa Ynez, California, on July 28, 2012. They have a son, Dekker Edward (born 2013), and a daughter, Lachlyn Hope (born 2015).

Gosselaar is a sports car enthusiast, racer, track cyclist, dirt biker, and pilot. He participated in the Far West Championships for track cycling in 2005. At Encino Velodrome, he won the Category 4/5 Sprint Championship event. He is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blue belt under Rigan Machado.

Gosselaar lives in Los Angeles. In February 2022, Sherman Oaks sold his home.

Career

Gosselaar was the first celebrity to be noticed as the star of NBC's hit television comedy series Saved by the Bell from 1989 to 1993. Zack Morris, the lead on the short-lived Disney Channel sitcom Good Morning, Miss Bliss, was adapted from the short-lived Disney Channel sitcom Good Morning, Miss Bliss, but despite the fact that the show was cancelled after one season, NBC executives felt that a similar project, with Zack Morris as the lead, had a chance of thriving. Saved by the Bell, a less successful spin-off of two television shows, and a less successful spin-off of Saved by the Bell: The College Years. In 1994, he appeared in Zack Morris in a second spin-off series Saved by the Bell: The New Class, as the original Zack Morris, as Lisa Turtle, alongside Mario López and Alan Lápez.

He appeared in She Cried No. 3 in 1996 as a college student who date-rapes his best friend's sister at a fraternity party. He appeared in the film Dead Man on Campus in 1998. Gosselaar played the central character in the TV drama Hyperion Bay, which lasted 17 episodes later that year. He appeared in the film The Princess and the Marine in 2001 with Marisol Nichols. He appeared on ABC's Detective John Clark from 2001 to 2005. After the series ended, he joined the cast of ABC's Commander in Chief, which lasted only one season. He appeared on HBO's John from Cincinnati. He then took on the lead of defense attorney Jerry Kellerman in the Steven Bochco-produced Raising the Bar, which premiered on September 1, 2008 on TNT, but was cancelled in November 2009 after two seasons.

On June 8, 2009, Gosselaar appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon as Zack Morris, indicating that the name Mark-Paul Gosselaar is his stage name and announcing that he is participating in a Saved by the Bell "Class" reunion that is being spearheaded by Fallon. On February 4, 2015, Gosselaar reunited with Mario Lopez, Elizabeth Berkley, Dennis Haskins, and Tiffani Thiessen on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where they appeared in a Save by the Bell sketch with Fallon.

He made his off-Broadway debut in Theresa Rebeck's play The Understudy with The Roundabout Theatre Company in October 2009. The show's limited New York run lasted until January 17, 2010.

On March 28, 2010, Gosselaar began filming Franklin & Bash, a TNT series. On June 1, 2011, the series debuted on June 1, 2011. The show was cancelled on November 11, 2014, after four seasons, according to the network. Mike Lawson, actor catcher and team captain, appeared in the main role of Pitch cast Gosselaar in February 2016, which premiered on September 22, 2016. After one season, the show was cancelled on May 1, 2017. He appeared in two episodes of Tiffani Thiessen's cooking show, Dinner at Tiffani's.

In 2019, Gosselaar took the lead role in ABC comedy series Mix-ish (spin-off and prequel series of Black-ish) in Rainbow's father. Anders Holm, who portrayed the protagonist in the pilot episode, was given the role by Hector. In the 2020 sequel series Saved by the Whistle, Gosselaar reprised his role as Zack Morris.
