Mark Collie Career

Singing career

Collie's performing and recording style attracted comparisons to Bruce Springsteen and Johnny Cash, thanks to Collie's combination of Rockabilly energy, passion, and clever songwriting.

Collie began his career on MCA Records in 1989 after being discovered by label reps. Collie was helped by Tony Brown, the label's then-president, who helped Collie obtain his employment. In 1990, Brown and Doug Johnson co-produced his debut album, Hardin County Line. "Something with a Ring to It," "Looks Aren't Everything," the album's title track, and "Let Her Go" -- the fourth highest-charting of the four songs, at #18 on Hot Country Songs, the album featured four singles. It's B-side, "Where There's Smoke," was later a Top 40 single for Archer/Park in 1994.

Born and Raised in Black & White, his second album, "Calloused Hands" and "She's Never Comin' Back," debuting at #70, although "It Don't Take a Lot" soared to the top 40 singles. The album, according to Allmusic's Steve Huey, is "more polished" than its predecessor.

Don Cook produced Collie Collie's third album for MCA, Mark Collie. It was for his two top-charting singles, "Even the Man in the Moon Cryin'" at #5, and "Born to Love You" at #6; it was a tie. "Shame Shame Shame Shame Shame" and "Something's Gonna Change Her Mind" were both top ten sellers after those two songs, as well as "Something's Gonna Change My Mind." The album, according to Brian Mansfield, was "At least a step toward the mainstream and a return to Collie's West Tennessee rockabilly roots."

Unleashed was first introduced in 1994. "It Is Secret" was it's first single, and "Hard Lovin' Woman," its only other debut, debuted at #33. Deborah Allen, Carlene Carter, and James House contributed to the album's guest vocals.

In 1995, Collie signed to Giant Records. Collie co-produced Tennessee Plates, his first album for the brand, and James Stroud co-produced with Tennessee Plates. Its two charting singles were "Three Words, Two Hearts, One Night," his last Top 40 entry on the country chart, and "Steady as She Goes." He reached #72 with "Love to Burn," which he recorded for the Columbia Records multi-artist collection NASCAR: Hotter than Asphalt, after these two hits. On the 1997 tribute album Jim Croce's "Rapid Roy (The Stock Car Boy) Collie covered Jim Croce's "Rapid Roy (The Stock Car Boy)" by Collie. A Nashville Tribute. Also the Man in the Moon Is Cryin, a MCA single, was released in 1998 by MCA.

He did not announce another album until the 2006 Rose Covered Garden. In 2012, Alive at Brushy Peak, a live album, was released.

Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, and Johnny Cash have all appeared onstage, as have Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, and Johnny Cash. He continues to tour both in the United States and Europe.

Collie became the first artist signed to 102 Ranch records in September 2013. "I'm thrilled to have a new home with 101 Ranch Records and be working with Doug, Bob, and Tammy," Mark Collie says. "I have a few new and exciting projects coming up that I am looking forward to debuting with the brand."

Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Alabama, and George Jones are among Collie's songwriting credits. He has been known for writing songs for Hollywood Movies, including Lions Gate's The Punisher starring John Travolta and Fire Down Below starring Steven Seagal.

Collie has produced or coproduced albums for Brandt Vogel, JT Hodges, Kyle Sherman, and the Horn Family, in addition to his own music.
