Mario Preskar Career

Amateur career

Preskar was born in Zagreb, Croatia, and was destined to be a doctor. He started boxing at the age of 9 at the behest of his father, eljko, a cab driver. Preskar's last amateur record was 45-5, making him the seventh-time Croatian national champion.

Professional career

Preskar began his professional career in 2003, when he was 19 years old, working with Don King, the world's best-known boxing manager. In September 2008, King and Preskar parted ways, with King reportedly refusing to accept new contract terms offered by Preskar and Pijetraj, who called for more combat. Preskar created new opportunities with K2 Promotions, run by the Klitschko brothers.

Preskar led most of the game against Maksym Pedyura in Lviv on June 27, 2009, but he was disqualified twice in the last round. He collapsed and was admitted to the hospital right after the final bell. The match was declared a draw.

Due to the high temperature and poor ventilation in the hall, Preskar attributed the occurrence to extreme exhaustion. In August 2009, he declared an indefinite break from boxing, citing a lack of motivation. He died while training in May 2010 and was diagnosed with epilepsy.

Preskar is currently working as a boxing coach and a boxing commentator for RTL Televizija.
