Career
She auditioned for AKB48's first generation roster in October 2005, but she didn't pass the audition. Shinoda started working AKB48's theater café, then known as Akihabara 48, as a café attendant and giving out free flyers on the street right away from her audition. Shinoda became a hit among patrons who found her audition dissatisfied. Patrons began submitting their name on hand-written ballots for the weekly performer polls to demonstrate their love. AKB48's general producer, Yasushi Akimoto, was alerted of her success and gave her the opportunity to join AKB48 on the condition that she learns the company's 12 songs and dances in four days. With her debut on Team A on January 22, 2006, she became AKB48's first non-generation, or "1.5 generation" member. "Aitakatta" was her first single as part of the main group. She has appeared in television commercials as the "queen of television commercials" for 2012, when companies were paid more contracts (a total of 20) with companies to appear in their advertisements (fellow AKB48 member Tomomi Itano was tied at 20).
AKB48 Theater's general manager Tomonobu Togasaki reported dramatic team changes, naming Shinoda as the current captain of Team A in August 2012.
Shinoda's clothing brand "ricori" debuted in 2013, a clothing line that she had created and produced. Before joining AKB48, she said that starting her own line of clothing had been a goal of hers. In July 2014, ricori ceased operations and closed down its stores. Shinoda claimed she was only an advisor for the brand until 2013.
In the 2013 AKB48 General Election, Shinoda came in fifth overall. Shinoda revealed on June 8th that she would leave the organization during the live broadcast of the election results. Her graduation ceremony took place on July 21 at the Fukuoka PayPay Dome, and she was on the 22nd of July for her last appearance at the AKB48 theater.
