Early life

Menounos was born in Medford, Massachusetts, to Greek immigrant parents Costas and Litsa Menounos, who worked as janitors in a Boston nightclub. Peter, she has a younger brother. In Somerville, Massachusetts, the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church Menounos attended the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church. She also attended Medford High School in Medford.

Menounos began to compete in beauty pageants in 1995. During the preliminary competition, she earned the title of Miss Massachusetts Teen USA, and she competed at Miss Teen USA, where she finished in the top 15 with an honorary mention. In preliminary exams, Menounos ranked 13th. She competed for Miss Massachusetts USA 2000, and she was the first runner-up.

Menounos attended Emerson College in Boston, where she was a member of Emerson Independent Video, a Boston-based nonprofit. In 2000, she graduated from Emerson.

Personal life

Menounos was posed nude in the May issue of Allure magazine in 2012.

Menounos told Howard Stern that she had previously been sexually assaulted by two different doctors during medical examinations.

She underwent surgery for a meningioma, an intracranial tumor, in June 2017.

In a 2017 New Year's celebrations hosted by Steve Harvey, Menounos married Keven Undergaro in Times Square, and then again in a 2018 Orthodox wedding in Akovos, Greece.

Career

Menounos worked as a reporter for Channel One News during her senior year at Emerson. She traveled to El Salvador to cover the January 2001 and February 2001 earthquakes, interviewed NATO aircrew members aboard an E-3 AWACS plane during the military alliance's Operation Eagle Assist, and interviewed President George W. Bush.

Menounos was hired as a reporter by Entertainment Tonight in 2002, where she covered movies, music, and fashion. She left the program in 2005 to concentrate on her acting career, but she will return to Access Hollywood as a reporter in fall. She went on to co-host a few episodes of the Today show in the late summer and fall of 2006, as well as in April 2007. Menounos appeared on Punk'd's November 30 episode, where she was one of several celebrities caught in the awkward and embarrassing "Red Carpet Interviews" in 2003.

Menounos appeared in an episode of UPN's One on One as Glenda, an eccentric, self-proclaimed "Fairy Godmother to the Stars," on the television show "One on One. She appeared in the comedy book film Fantastic Four, where she played a nurse who is romanced by the Human Torch, starring Chris Evans. Eva Adara, Red Grant's henchwoman, stars Sean Connery as James Bond, with her likeness and voice included in the 2005 Electronic Arts video game James Bond 007: From Russia with Love. She is also the spokesperson for Pantene hair products. In Athens, Menounos performed the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest (along with Greek singer Sakis Rouvas). Wilmer Valderrama is also directed by Menounos in the film Longtime Listener. The film was one of the official selections of the Tribeca Film Festival in 2006. Menounos appeared and produced Adventures of Serial Buddies, the first serial killer buddy comedy to be released.

Menounos produced In the Land of Merry Misfits, an independent film fairy tale at the age of 17. While attending Emerson College with director Keven Undergaro, then head writer for MTV's Singled Out, Menounos produced the 35 mm feature film. The film's negative was stolen and no film was completed, but her reporting work at Channel One News and MTV helped her land her reporting position. However, menounos never forgot the film or the film's producer. Menounos personally funded the restoration and restoration of the film, which was directed by John Waters and starred an eclectic group in the Waters vein, including former WWE champion Bob Backlund, actor Josie Davis of the TV show Charles in Charge and B-movie icon Randal Malone. The film premiered at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival.

Menounos also owns AfterBuzzTV, an online entertainment company she co-founded with Undergaro for which she was named the 2014 CES Entertainment Matters Ambassador. Kickin' It Old Skool premiered on April 27, 2007. Menounos' campaign as an international spokesperson for Pantene hair products, as well as New York & Company's print ads. Menounos hosted Clash of the Choirs, a reality game show miniseries from December 17 to 20, 2007.

She became the host of Hollywood Green on the Planet Green network in 2008. She appeared in the film Tropic Thunder in 2008 and became the first (and to date) journalist to interview the entire Obama family as a whole. She also worked for NBC Nightly News.

She competed in the AVP Cuervo Gold Crown Huntington Beach Open in May 2008, but she was disqualified in the qualifier round. On August 4, 2011, it was revealed that she would join Warner Bros. Extra, where she co-hosted the show with Mario Lopez. She also served on-air at Dr. Drew's Lifechangers, helping to develop new projects. Menounos received a Daytime Emmy Award for her work on Extra.

She appeared on Dancing with the Stars' 14th season, partnering with Derek Hough. On May 15, 2012, the couple was exiled, ending up in fourth place. Menounos launched Conversations with Maria Menounos, her first guest, in May 2013.

Menounos' reality TV series Chasing Maria Menounos premiered on the Oxygen Network on March 18, 2014.

Menounos left the show and signed a multi-year deal with E in May 2014, after three years of hosting Extra. Multiple shows will be produced and produced by Entertainment in the United States. Menounos will replace Giuliana Rancic as the co-anchor of E! The Hollywood Reporter announced in July 2015 that Menounos would replace Giuliana Rancic as the co-anchor of E! Menounos appeared on the reunion show of season one of The Challenge: All Stars, a special-limited series of the MTV reality-commission film The Challenge, with Nate Burleson. Menounos hosted the reunion show for the 37th season of the main series of The Challenge: Spies, Lies & Allies, in December 2021.

Menounos has been a long-time WWE fan and has appeared in several WWE appearances. Menounos' first appearance came on October 12, 2009, when Menounos joined Nancy O'Dell in guest hosting WWE Raw. She made her in-ring debut against Gail Kim and Kelly Kelly on Friday against Alicia Fox, Beth Phoenix, and Rosa Mendes; Menounos' team was victorious, with Menounos highlighting the much larger-statured Phoenix.

Menounos returned and joined Alicia Fox, Eve Torres, and Kelly Kelly to defeat the Bella Twins (Brie and Nikki) and The Divas of Doom (Phoenix and Natalya), where Menounos earned the victory for her team by defeating Phoenix.

After Phoenix and Eve Torres interrupted an interview segment with Kelly Kelly on Extra, Menounos continued her feud with WWE Divas Champion Phoenix. This culminated in a tag team match at WrestleMania XXVIII, with Menounos and Kelly Kelly teaming up against Phoenix and Torres. Despite suffering two cracked ribs during preparations for Dancing with the Stars, Menounos and Kelly were able to defeat Phoenix and Torres on April 1, 2012, beating Phoenix and Torres, with Menounos winning Phoenix.

Backlund was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on April 6, 2013. Brie Bella and Eva Marie were defeated by SummerSlam Axxess on August 18, 2013.

Menounos appeared in the crowd and later in a backstage interview with Stephanie McMahon, who accepted Menounos' challenge for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on August 17, 2014. Menounos was actually nominated in the first place by McMahon's father and chairman of WWE Vince McMahon.

She has been on the WWE Hall of Fame red carpet pre-show for six years in a row (2014-2019). She appeared on stage for WrestleMania 31, WrestleMania 32, and WrestleMania 33. Menounos appeared in one episode of WWE Network's Swerved and was a backstage interviewer for SummerSlam in 2016. On January 28, 2018, she became the special guest ring announcer for the first-ever women's Royal Rumble match at the Royal Rumble.
