Manuel Luis Jacinto (born August 19, 1987) is a Filipino-born Canadian actor.

After several small roles on television, his breakout role came in 2016, playing Jason Mendoza on the NBC sitcom The Good Place.

In 2018, he was cast in the feature film Top Gun: Maverick.

Early life

Jacinto was born in Manila, Philippines, and is of Chinese Filipino descent. His family immigrated to Canada in 1990, when he was about three years old. He was raised in Richmond, British Columbia. Jacinto grew up playing baseball and basketball, and attended an all-boys Catholic high school, Vancouver College.

He earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering at the University of British Columbia.

Personal life

In November 2019, Jacinto announced that he was engaged to fellow Canadian actress Dianne Doan. He lives in Los Angeles.

Career

Jacinto competed in hip-hop dance competitions while interning before deciding on acting as a profession. He became ill in Vancouver due to a shortage of other Asian actors, and he moved to Los Angeles.

He appeared in a small film including Once Upon A Time, Supernatural, and iZombie, and in Chris Haddock's Canadian spy drama The Romeo Section was in 2015. Leo Award for Best Supporting Performance in a Dramatic Series was given to him by the actor.

In 2016, Jacinto was portrayed as Jianyu Li / Jason Mendoza in the NBC comedy The Good Place. Jacinto received praise for his role as Mendoza, the EDM-obsessed "lovable doofus" from Jacksonville, Florida, defying stereotypes of Asian men being depicted in Hollywood.

Jacinto was cast in the Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, starring Tom Cruise in September 2018.

Jacinto would appear in a major role in the Netflix horror drama miniseries Brand New Cherry Flavor, which was announced in November 2019. On August 13, 2021, the miniseries was first published.

In November 2021, it was announced that Jacinto would be voicing Scott in Hailey's On It!, an animated comedy-adventure film that is set to premiere in 2023.

In 2022, Jacinto starred Lucan in the eight-episode sci-fi podcast Marigold Breach, as well as his Good Place co-star Jameela Jamil.

The first poster for Disney's highly awaited Star Wars TV series The Acolyte has been revealed, and it will premiere on the Disney Plus subscription service on June 4. The poster was first seen on the Star Wars X website, which also announced that the first trailer would debut on Tuesday at 8 a. PT.
