Maik Zirbes (born January 29, 1990) is a professional basketball player for Cedevita Olimpija of the Slovenian League, ABA League, and the EuroCup.

He also represents the senior German national basketball team in international competitions.

Maik Zirbes Career

Early career

Zirbes played soccer first, but he switched to basketball when he turned 12 years old. He began his basketball career in TBB Trier's youth program before signing his first professional deal with TBB at the age of 17. Zirbes was named Most Valuable Player of the German youth league NBBL in the 2008–09 season.

Professional career

Zirbes played for TBB Trier before he agreed to a three-year deal with Brose Baskets in June 2012.

Zirbes signed a two-year contract with the Serbian side Crvena zvezda on August 5th, 2014. Crvena zvezda won the Adriatic League championship, the Serbian League championship, and the Radivoj Kora Cup in his first season with the club in 2014–15 seasons. In June 2015, he exercised his player option for the 2015–16 season.

Zirbes agreed to a two-year deal with Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv on June 13. Zirbes returned to Germany on January 24, 2017 and signed with Bayern Munich on loan until the end of the season. Zirbes announced a two-year contract extension with Bayern Munich on July 30, 2017.

Zirbes returned to Crvena zvezda on July 17th, 2018. Zirbes averaged 7.7 points and 4 rebounds in just over 15 minutes per game during his one-year with KK Crvena zvezda. In round 2 of the ABA League regular season, his best game was against KK Budu's 87–71 victory over 87–71 victory over KK Budunost on October 8, where he scored 19 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 22 minutes. Zirbes was signed to the National Basketball League of Serbia on May 3rbes after being cut from the roster for the Basketball League of Serbia. (China).

Zirbes signed with Shabab Al Ahli of the UAE National Basketball League on July 12, 2020. He signed with Crvena zvezda until the end of 2021, with the option to extend it for the season. On June 20, 2022, he left the Zvezda. Zirbes, a defender from Benfica de Basquetebol, joined Benfica in August 2022.

National team career

Zirbes competed for the German Junior National Teams in the 2008 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship and the 2010 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship. When Germany defeated the Netherlands in August 2009, he was handed his first cap with the senior German national basketball team. Zirbes was a participant of Germany's roster at the 2013 Eurobasket in Slovenia in 2013.
