David McCleary Sheldon (born July 25, 1981), also known as Mac Lethal, is an American rapper from Kansas City, Missouri.
He is the maker of Black Clover Records and formerly a radio host on KRBZ 96.5's Buzz show, Black Clover Radio.
Career
On HHI Recordings in 2002, Mac Lethal released Men Are From Mars, Pornstars Are From Mars. He also took home the Scribble Jam rap competition last year. In 2004, Sage Francis joined him on the Fuck Clear Channel Tour.
Mac Lethal founded Black Clover Records in 2006 with longtime colleague Jeremy Willis, who had been running the Datura Label. He released 11:11:11 on Rhymesayers Entertainment in 2007.
He was offered a Sony contract in 2011 but he turned down, referring to the $250,000, 2 option, and one historic option contract as "insane."
Mac Lethal made a video on YouTube on November 30, 2011, where he raps over the beat to Chris Brown's "Look at Me Now" as he prepares a dish of pancakes in his kitchen. The video went viral and gained millions of viewers in a matter of days, leading to interviews on CNN and The Washington Post. It was included on Spin's "Most Vibrant Web Sensations of 2011" list. On Black Clover Records' 1999, he also released an Irish Goodbye album.
In addition, Mac Lethal's "Texts from Bennett" blog, in which he posts text messages between himself and his cousin Bennett. Though some have doubted whether or not Bennett is a real person, the man insists that the discussions are genuine. In 2013, Simon & Schuster's book of the same name was published.
Binge Thinking, a television show hosted on MTV2 on April 1, 2016, Mac Lethal and Amber Diamond host the television show Binge Thinking. Congratulations, a studio album that featured a guest appearance from Tech N9ne, was released on September 13, 2016.
"Kansas Chiefs Anthem 2020" was released by the Chiefs before his victory in Super Bowl LIV. In the song, he mentions several Chiefs players from that season.
