Louis Hofmann (born 3 June 1997) is a German actor who first gained attention as the lead in the 2011 German film Tom Sawyer and won the Bodil Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as a teenage German POW in the 2015 Danish film Land of Mine.

He is also known for his role in the 2017 German Netflix Original series, Dark.

Life and career

Hofmann was born in Bergisch Gladbach, Bensberg, and grew up in Cologne. This was his first exposure in front of the camera for Service Zeit, an evening magazine program on the WDR television network. He appeared in a segment of Die Ausflieger, which evaluated family recreational activities. He wanted to be an actor after two and a half years with Service Zeit and applied to an acting company. Agentur Schwarz represented him later.

In 2009, Hofmann appeared in legal comedy-drama Danni Lowinski and television series Der verlorene Vater. He appeared in Tod, Istanbul's television film. In 2010, he appeared in Wilsberg and Alarm for Cobra 11.

In director Hermine Huntgeburth's 2011 German film adaptation of the classic Mark Twain book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Hofmann's first cinematic leading role was the titular Tom Sawyer. He performed on the soundtrack of the film "Barfuß Gehen" ("Going Barefoot"), with Leon Seidel, who appeared in the role of Huck Finn. In German cinemas, Tom Sawyer's Adventures of Huck Finn (German: Die Abenteuer des Huck Finn) was released on December 20, 2012. Hofmann appeared in a television series Stolberg's episode in 2013. Hofmann debuted in the comedy The Nearly Perfect Man on October 24th (German: Der schnell perfekte Mann).

In 2016, Hofmann appeared as Jonas Kahnwald in Dark, a science fiction thriller published on Netflix on December 1, 2017. Martha Nielsen's character is one of the leads, and he is the primary love interest in the story. On June 21, 2019, a second season was announced. On June 27, 2020, a third and final season would be announced.
