Early years
Frank Henry Griffin, a painter, and Margaret Allen Griffin (née Gibson), an actor, were born in Denver, Colorado.
The Griffin family went from Denver, California, in the 1930s to Los Angeles, California, where they were just about to begin to film production. Gaye and her siblings wanted to work in show management, and her mother was deterministic that her child and siblings pursue their dreams in show business. Judith (Teala Loring), Debralee (Debra Paget), and Frank (Ruell Shayne) are among her siblings who joined the company as either actor or crew.

Personal life
Gaye was married in 1955 to Bently C. Ware; his marriage ended with his death in 1977; the couple had just one child, Janelle. She died in Houston, Texas, on July 14, 2016.
Career
Gaye made her first professional film appearance at the age of 7. She began a seven-year deal with Universal Studios and was enrolled in the studio's vocational school for actors and actresses at 17.
She began her acting career in 1953-54 with two uncredited cameos. Drums Across the River was her first appearance in the film (1954). She appeared in 13 films between 1954 and 1967, including Ten Thousand Bedrooms (1957), Hawaiian Eye (1959), and How to Marry a Millionaire (1957).
Gaye appeared in a Merry Wives of Windsor production when she was 12 years old. She made her stage adult debut in Darling, I'm Yours, San Francisco, in 1957.
