Anne Reid Life

Anne Reid, MBE, (born 28 May 1935) is an English stage, film, and television actress best known for her appearances as Valerie Barlow in the soap opera Coronation Street (1961–2000); Jean in the sitcom Dinnerladies (1998–2000); and her BAFTA-nominated role as Celia Dawson in Halifax (2012–2016).

For the film The Mother (2003), she received the London Film Critics Circle Award for British Actress of the Year.

Early life

Reid was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, the granddaughter of Colin Norman Reid (1896-1979) and Annie Weetman Reid (1896–1980). She and her three older brothers lived in Redcar, where she attended John Emmerson Batty primary school and the White House School. She attended Penrhos College, a North Wales boarding school, when her father was posted abroad as a foreign correspondent for The Daily Telegraph: she visited her parents often in India, Tehran, and Beirut during the school holidays. Following graduation, she moved to London to study the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She then became a stage manager and worked in repertory theatre.

The Crown viewers have been left baffled after it received an incredible eight nominations for the TV BAFTAs as they brand the sixth series 'mediocre'. The TV BAFTA nominations were revealed on Tuesday ahead of the ceremony on May 12, with The Crown leading the way with the most nods in total. But critics of the royal drama have suggested it was undeserving of the nods as they claim he has 'gone downhill' and has become a 'snooze fest'.

This Morning has failed to receive a BAFTA Television Award nomination following a tumultuous year for the ITV flagship show. The ITV flagship show leads the snubs as the nominations were announced on Wednesday ahead of the May 12th ceremony. Fellow ITV show Lorraine and Loose Women and its Men's special episode were nominated in the Daytime category, along BBC shows, Make It At Market and Scam Interceptors.
