Clarence Linden Garnett Ashby III (born May 23, 1960) is an American actor and martial artist.
He is best known for his appearances in Johnny Cage's film version and as Dr. Brett Cooper on Melrose Place.
He is best known for his role as Sheriff Noah Stilinski in the MTV series Teen Wolf (2011-2017).
Early life
Ashby was born in Atlantic Beach, Florida, and the son of Eleanor (Johnson), a civic leader, and Clarence Linden Garnett Ashby Jr., a pharmaceutical firm. Ashby graduated from The Bolles School, a private school in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, but he dropped out his junior year to pursue an acting career. Ashby gained experience with the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City.
Personal life
Ashby is married to actress Susan Walters. On the set of Loving in 1983, she was a regular cast member and he was filming a guest appearance. Frances Grace (born 1991) and Savannah Elizabeth (born 1992). Ashby has been studying martial arts on and off since he was 21 years old and has studied Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and Kung Fu.
Linden has confessed to having panic attacks prior to auditions that threatened to shorten his career.
Career
Ashby's first television appearance, in 1985, was on ABC soap opera Loving, where he was the second actor to play Curtis Alden. Lance Reventlow, the sole son of Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton (played by Farrah Fawcett) in the Golden Globe-winning miniseries Poor Little Rich Girl: The Barbara Hutton Story, was released shortly after.
In Mortal Kombat, Ashby's 1995 film adaptation of the same name, based on his martial arts experience; the film became a cult classic. In the Mortal Kombat 11 video game, he will return to voice Johnny Cage.
Ashby appeared in the ABC's short-lived Spy Game in the second quarter of 1997. Brett Cooper, a character he played in Melrose Place during the seventh season in late 1998, appeared in the main cast later this year. In the episodes "Peanut Butter and Jealousy" and "Single White Sister" as Jo Reynolds' estranged husband Charles. He appeared in the film Wyatt Earp, where he played Morgan Earp, Wyatt Earp's (Kevin Costner) younger brother. Cameron Kirsten appeared on The Young and the Restless from 2003 to 2004. In March 2008, Paul Hollingsworth appeared on Days of Our Lives for the second time.
On MTV's Teen Wolf series, Ashby also portrayed Beacon Hills' Sheriff and father to Stiles Stilinski (played by Dylan O'Brien).
