Down has appeared on several occasions in the film industry as a sexual predator. "People aspired to it," she said in 2002 about becoming popular in the late 1960s: "The casting couch was in full swing; people awaited it." She had also said, in a 1977 interview, "I was promised a lot of lovely big film parts by American producers if I went to bed with them." The casting couch is no myth, believe me.
