Leila Forouhar (born 23 February 1958) is an Iranian pop and classical musician.

She appeared as a child in movies from the age of 3.

She is one of Iran society's most influential women artists.

She migrated to Istanbul in 1984, then to Paris, before emigrating to Los Angeles in 1988.

Career

Leila is the niece of late Iranian actor Jahangir Forouhar. She appeared in films in minor roles as a child, and she was praised for her work in Soltane Ghalbha (King of Hearts). She began modeling for fashion magazines as an adolescent. She continued to perform in films and has appeared in over 47 films, including Ezteraab, Four Sisters, and The Thirsty Ones.

The war in Iraq had a devastating effect on the Iranian movie and music industry. The Forouhar family lived in Tehran until deciding to immigrate from the country.

Forouhar and her family immigrated to the United States in 1988.

Leila's songs are popular in places including Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Iraq, Armenia, and the United States. She has sold more than 20 albums. "Planet of Harmony" by Sheri Levy contained songs in English, Italian, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, Dari Persian, Armenian, Turkish, and Kurdish.

Esmaeil Nabi, a Los Angeles-based Afghan-American businessman, married Leila in August 2004. Reza Aslan, an American Muslim reformer, is Forouhar's nephew.

In March 2010, she appeared at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., as she sang at an international celebration of Nowruz.

On her 1976 album Do Parande (Persian: Two Birds), Leila covered Dolly Parton's Jolene.
