Jafargholi appeared on Britain's Got Talent, episode 2, number 2 in 2009. His first audition song, "Valerie," was a cover of Amy Winehouse's "Valerie." After two lines, Simon Cowell stopped the song, saying, "You got this really wrong." Cowell requested that Jafargholi perform another song, but Cowell, who felt that the first song did not suit Jafargholi, demanded that Jafargholi sing another song. Jafargholi erupted and performed Smokey Robinson's "Who's Lovin' You," based on the Jackson 5 songbook, despite a moment of skepticism. This performance was largely praised by the audience and the judges, who received a standing ovation.

Any supporters of Britain's Got Talent have criticized Jafargholi's previous participation, alleging that the competition should only be open to amateurs. "British Got Talent is open to everybody, whether they are a professional or an amateur," a show spokesperson said. Shaheen has no influence on his role on Britain's Got Talent" because of what he has done in the past.

Jafargholi had been invited to host a one-hour show on his local radio station Bay Radio as a result of his participation in the talent competition. "Shaheen will take center stage in our bank holiday program," broadcast director Andy Griffiths said. He'll attend it himself, choosing his favorite songs, reflecting on his experiences on the show, and giving tips to other kids on how they can succeed."

From the musical Dreamgirls, Jafargholi selected "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" in the semi-finals. When the judges were about to select the second place between Jafargholi and the dance troupe MD Showgroup, Simon Cowell selected MD Showgroup, but Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan selected Jafargholi. Jafargholi performed "Who's Lovin' You," the song he had sung during his audition, receiving a standing ovation from the audience. He came in 6th place in the world's sixth position.

During the 2009 MOBO Awards' salute to Michael Jackson, Jafargholi performed "I'll Be There" twice. He travelled to Chicago a month later to tape "Who's Lovin' You," a program on The Oprah Winfrey Show, which aired on October 14th. At the BBC Children in Need Gala and "Who's Lovin' You" in Cardiff and the BBC Switch Live event later this month, as well as The Ellen DeGeneres Show where he performed "I'll Be There" which aired a month later. Jafargholi performed "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5 on Sunday in the UK's Got Talent tour on September 29, 2010. When being accompanied onstage by Dancers, Aidan Davis, Perri Luc Kiely, and Mitchell Craske from Diversity, he performed the song.

Jafargholi performed a musical tribute to "Who's Lovin' You" on stage at the Los Angeles Staples Center on July 7, 2009, a globally televised funeral service for Michael Jackson, who appeared on the British Got Talent tour. In his first appearance in his This Is It series of London concerts, he was invited to perform with Jackson. Smokey Robinson, the song's writer, was preceded by his appearance. Larry King leaned forward and asked Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, "Who is that?" following Jafargholi's salute. Gordy, who was moved by the show's success, "I have no cotton pickin's idea who that is," he said, but "I would definitely" sign him tomorrow if I were [still] in the industry."

Jafargholi revealed the details of his debut album and single in September 2010. On November 22, 2010, Vince Kidd and Paul O'Duffy's book "Last Train Home" was supposed to be released on a double A-side single, as well as "Hip Teens" (also produced by O'Duffy). According to a press release, "Last Train Home" is a "original string-soaked ballad with a nod to an era gone by," while "Hip Teens" is a reversion to soul band Frank Popp's 2007 hit "Hip Teens (Don't Wear Blue Jeans). Both songs were shot on video. When I Come of Age, the album was supposed to be a mash-up of original content and rare '60s soul covers.' Jafargholi collaborated with top US producers Jerry Wonda and Igloo & TC (best known for their collaboration with Whitney Houston, The Black Eyed Peas, and Backstreet Boys), as well as UK composers Paul O'Duffy, Jimmy Hogarth, and Martin Terefe for the album.

It was revealed in November that the single and album would be delayed until March 2011 "due to a lot of foreign interest and some exciting overseas markets," but that has never been announced.

In 2014, Jafargholi appeared as the Genie in The New Victoria Theatre's pantomime, Aladdin. In May 2016, Jafargholi joined the cast of BBC soap opera EastEnders portraying Shakil Kazemi.
