Lee Marc Tomlin (born 12 January 1989) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker or a attacking midfielder for Cardiff City.

Early life

Tomlin was born in Leicester, Leicestershire. He began his career with Leicester City's youth department in 1996 before joining Rushden & Diamonds' youth staff in 2005. When he arrived as a replacement for Drewe Broughton in the 74th minute in October 2005, he became Rushden's youngest first-team player. He made several more substitute appearances throughout the year, but his first appearance came in November 2005 in an FA Cup first round replay against Halifax Town. In the 2005–06 season, he made 21 appearances in League Two.

Club career

Tomlin attracted the attention of several major clubs before the 2006–07 season, and he was given a trial with Liverpool. Throughout the season, he made more appearances and became more of a regular in the Rushden starting eleven. In the 21st minute, he scored his first goal for the club against Weymouth, the match after Paul Hart was suspended. In the FA Cup fourth qualifying round, he immediately followed this with another goal, this time against Altrincham. He scored six goals on the season, both as a forward and on both wings, scoring as a forward and on both wings. Tomlin joined Brackley Town in October 2007 on a one-month loan, making two appearances.

During the 2009–10 season, Tomlin played for left midfield under his new manager, Justin Edinburgh, who praised his growth and his transfer to the Football League. Following the conclusion of the season, a six-figure bid for Tomlin was turned down from another Blue Square Bet Premier club, Crawley Town, and Rushden, who then announced that he would be given a new deal.

On August 6, 2010, Tomlin signed for Peterborough United in League One for an undisclosed fee. With a hard working performance against Huddersfield Town at Old Trafford, which the Posh won 3–0, he continued to help the team gain promotion.

He continued to grow his name on the circuit, and in a game against Ipswich Town on August 20, he scored his first professional hat-trick, assisting Peterborough in a 7–1 victory.

In Peterborough's last game of the 2012–13 season, they beat Crystal Palace 5–2, but the relegation of the team to League One was confirmed.

Tomlin was signed on loan for the remainder of the 2013–14 season by January 31, 2014, with the intention of making the transfer permanent. It was revealed on February 18 that he had signed a three-and-a-half-year contract on a permanent basis. Tomlin made his debut against Leeds United on February 22nd in a 0–0 draw, beginning as a backup for Kei Kamara. Tomlin was named Championship Player of the Month in January 2015 following a string of fine performances, most notable in Middlesbrough's 2–0 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Tomlin signed with Premier League newcomers AFC Bournemouth on a three-year contract worth around £3.5 million on August 4, 2015. Joshua King made his debut against Liverpool against Liverpool, before being drafted by him. A penalty against Birmingham City in the FA Cup was his only goal for Bournemouth in the 2015-16 season.

On January 27, 2016, Tomlin signed for Bristol City, a season-long loan. He made his goalless draw against Birmingham City on January 30th. Tomlin scored six goals in 18 appearances, including goals in a 6–0 victory over Bolton Wanderers and a 4–0 win over Huddersfield Town.

During the summer, Tomlin began talks with Bristol City and undertook part in a medical on July 4th.

During a 1–0 victory over Burton Albion on July 13, Tomlin joined Cardiff City on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

On January 31, 2018, Tomlin joined Nottingham Forest on loan in a swap arrangement with Jamie Ward, who moved to Cardiff on loan in return. In a 1–1 draw with Reading on February 20, 2018, he scored his first goal for Forest.

Tomlin, who was training with Peterborough United, was released on December 18, 2018 and will return to the club on loan from January 1st to the end of the season. However, the move was delayed due to paperwork issues. The transfer was eventually completed on January 8th.

On January 10, 2020, Tomlin agreed to a new two-and-a-half year with Cardiff.

By mutual agreement on October 4, 2021, Tomlin left the club by mutual consent.

Tomlin joined Walsall, an EFL League Two club, on a short-term deal until the 2021-22 season. Tomlin made five appearances with the club, four of which were off the bench, before being released at the end of the season.

Tomlin retired in October 2022 after playing for Doncaster Rovers in summer 2022 due to injury.

International career

In 2009, Tomlin was capped twice by the England national C team.
