Leon James "Lee" DeWyze Jr. (born April 2, 1986) is an American singer-songwriter and a winner of American Idol's ninth season. DeWyze had a solo career before Idol and formed the Lee DeWyze Band.

So I'm Told and Slumberland were also released on WuLi Records in 2007. Live It Up, DeWyze's first post-Idol album, was released on November 16, 2010 by RCA Records.

On February 14, 2012, WuLi Records, citing a demand from DeWyze's fan base, released What Once Was a third album of pre-Idol recordings, What Once Was.

Frames, his fifth studio album, was released on August 20, 2013, and his sixth album Oil & Water was released on February 12, 2016.

Paranoia, DeWyze's seventh album, was announced on February 16, 2018.

Personal life

DeWyze has a few of the words from "Miles From Nowhere," which says, "Dear Friend, my body has been a good friend, but I won't need it until I get to the end." On his right arm, he has a silhouette of the Chicago flag and tree of life, as well as a Shel Silverstein illustration on his left arm.

DeWyze revealed his relationship with model and actress Jonna Walsh on July 27, 2011. On July 21, 2012, the couple married on July 21, 2012.

Career

DeWyze worked as a painter after being kicked out of high school. He served as a trading floor clerk at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange from 2007–2008 before returning to work at the Mount Prospect paint store until he auditioned for American Idol and making it to the Hollywood rounds of the competition. By selling tee shirts urging shoppers to vote for Lee, the store continued to assist him during his American Idol run.

DeWyze began performing at an early age and was discovered by Louis Svitek, who saw DeWyze, then 17, playing guitar and performing at a house party in Chicago's northwest suburbs. Svitek has signed DeWyze to WuLi Records, the Chicago independent record label he shares with Ryan McGuire. Dewyze, McGuire, and Jeff Henderson formed the "Lee DeWyze Band" with Svitek, McGuire, and Jeff Henderson. DeWyze released two albums, So I'm Told (2007) and Slumberland (2010), both of which were produced by Ryan McGuire. In 2010, WuLi introduced So I'm Told, a remastered and remastered version. DeWyze and the band recorded a disc for Square One Organic Baby Food Company, a company owned by Henderson's wife in 2008. On the "Square One Organic" promotional CD, DeWyze released six songs, as well as Ryan McGuire.

DeWyze and his band's music were well known in the area and performed at several venues, even receiving radio play on WXRT long before he auditioned for American Idol. During the 2008 and 2009 seasons, The Lee DeWyze Band appeared on ABC 7's The Chicago Huddle, hosted by ABC 7's Ryan Chiaverini.

On June 22, 2009, DeWyze auditioned in Chicago at the United Center for the ninth season of American Idol, after being inspired by his friend Vincent Ferrara, who was also competing in Chicago. "Ain't No Sunshine" was his first audition. He was one of only thirteen people from Chicago, the lowest number out of all seven audition cities, to make it to Hollywood week. Aaron Kelly and Crystal Bowersox's crew were among the Top 5 performers during Hollywood Week this week, with all of whom made the Top 5 this week. On May 26, 2010, DeWyze defeated Bowersox and was crowned the champion.

Andrew Garcia, his closest friend of the participants, is his closest friend. Garcia was his roommate during the season until he was kicked out of the Top 9 in the Top 9. Lee said he was generally in good shape for all the Top 10 Idols, but he is also close to Siobhan Magnus, Katie Stevens, Aaron Kelly, Aaron Kelly, Aaron Kelly, Aaron Kelly, and Alex Lambert and Lacey Brown from the Top 16.

DeWyze was one of two contestants in the ninth season to never land in the top three, with the other being Bowersox. The judges lauded him for shedding his shy persona throughout the season and demonstrating with a calm attitude that he was "in it to win it" in the case.

On May 27, 2010, DeWyze's Idol coronation song, a recreation of U2's "Beautiful Day," was released as a digital single. "I like the song a lot; it's a really good song." RCA Records CEO Peter Edge announced on October 6, 2011, that the 25-year-old DeWyze was no longer on the label. DeWyze was the last of a nine-year relationship between Idol, 19 Recordings, and Sony Music, which had a unique right to broadcast the show's music. The DeWyze option came to an end in September.

On February 14, 2012, WuLi Records, citing a demand from DeWyze's fan base, has released What Once Was?, a third album of pre-Idol recordings. There are nine songs on the album.

On October 26, 2012, DeWyze's "Acoustic Duo Tour" began.

DeWyze revealed that he had signed with Vanguard Records on January 15, 2013. "Silver Lining" was originally supposed to be broadcast on Triple A radio on June 10 and be available digitally the following day. However, the single's release date was delayed and was announced to digital retailers on April 24, 2013.

DeWyze announced the title, track listing, and release date of his latest album, Frames, which was released on August 20, 2013.

In the TV series The Walking Dead, DeWyze's "Blackbird Song" was used on March 9, 2014. It was the second most popular song on Spotify in the United States this week, according to The Fresno Bee. The song debuted on Billboard's "Pop Digital Songs" chart at number twenty-nine. The song appeared on a Suits sixth-season episode in 2017.

Oil & Water, DeWyze's sixth studio album, was released on February 12, 2016 by Shanachie Entertainment and Pledgemusic. It was led by single "Stone" whose music video premiered on April 8, 2016. It was directed by Gabriel Younes, starring actor Harwood Gordon, and shot near Big Bear Lake.
