Valentine appeared in Neighbours as Libby Kennedy in 1994, aged 17. She went to Melbourne to work as a mentor and stayed on the program until 2004. Valentine left to start a family and expand her acting repertoire by returning to the stage. In a way that allowed for her eventual return, Libby was written out of the storyline.

In 2005, Valentine played Baby in Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage at the Theatre Royal in Sydney. When the production was transferred to London's West End, she was expected to reprise her role. Valentine returned to Neighbours on a permanent basis in June 2007.
