Kata Hay (born 19 January 1987) is an American country music performer best known for appearing on The Voice's 2016 season.
Early life
In 1987, Hay was born in Skiatook, Oklahoma.
Personal life
Hay was previously married to singer Robbie Helton, whom she married at the age of 18.
Hay was sentenced to six months in prison for allegedly having sexual interaction with a juvenile in June 2022.
Singing career
Hay began performing at the age of two after being inspired by a friend who performed in a beauty pageant, compelled her to enter a similar competition. Hay performed "Hey, Good Lookin" after her father's inability to pay the $50 nomination fee and was crowned the finals in Georgia. Hay has appeared at various local festivals and talent shows.
Hay's Star Search, the show's producers, sent videos of the participants to Ed McMahon's Star Search, which resulted in Hay's invitation to perform on the program. After her appearance on Star Search, she received two perfect scores, including beating challenger Anna Nardona and winning the grand prize for the Under 12's category, becoming the youngest person to win the grand prize.
Hay then became a hall of fame inductee of the Oklahoma Opry and championed five international yodeling championships. Hay was also the sole recipient of the Rodeo Opry's Grant Leftwich Legacy Award.
Hay played in the 1988 independent film Oklahoma Faded Love in which she sang the Patsy Cline version of "Crazy" as she performed a younger version of the lead role.
In addition, Hay has appeared in many television commercials, Willie George Ministries short films, and has appeared in several television commercials, and has appeared in many radio voiceovers for Tulsa radio station KVOO-FM.
When Hay was 13, she began to experiment with the Western swing subgenre of country music. In 2000, she appeared at the Patsy Montana music festival in Arkansas. Hay was named champion after competing in the Patsy National National Yodeling Championship at the time. Jane Frost, Montana's biographer, spoke at Hay that day: "She stepped up to the microphone... and smiled like the pixie we knew as Patsy." Hay then travelled to the United States and was named as a featured artist at Fan Fair 2000, which was held in Nashville in June, 2000.

Hay was hired to appear in Fiddler's Feast Dinner Theater in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where she met her long husband Robbie Helton when she was touring Australia in 2004 and 2005. Hay and Helton decided to leave the theater after one year to concentrate on their own original music, and formed the band Kata & The Blaze.
Kata & The Blaze's debut album, Reckless, appeared in 2007, was followed by an EP called Remember This Summer in 2009. Hay and Helton formed the Grassabillies, which also produced an album titled Here Come The Grassabillies, which was released in 2009.
Hay and Helton were the featured house band entertainers at Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede in 2008.

Hay was accepted to audition again for American television show The Voice after four previous attempts to compete but failing to make it to the first audition stage. Hay made it to the "blind auditions" on the tenth season of the show as a result.
On March 1, 2016, her blind audition went on television. Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, and Pharrell Williams, three coaches turned their chairs at the end of their set "Redneck Women," by Gretchen Wilson. Blake Shelton, a country singer, was the only one not to turn away. Hay revealed that she had worked with Shelton as a child.
Hay picked Aguilera to be her coach after admitting that Aguilera was her first "girl crush" and sparking a light-hearted moment where the two women briefly kissed for a brief period of time. Hay advanced to the top 20 after defeating Chelsea Gann in the battle rounds and Joe Maye in the knockout rounds.
