Life and career
Herfurth was born in East Berlin, East Germany, and the daughter of a psychologist mother and a geriatric nurse practitioner father. When she was two years old, her parents divorced. She grew up in Berlin with a brother, five half-brothers, and a sister. She attended a Waldorf school in Berlin and graduated from Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts. She learned how to play the recorder and read sociology and political sciences.
Career
Herfurth appeared in a television series at the age of ten and was in fact the first time in a film when she was 15 years old. She has appeared in German films including Mädchen, Mädchen (2001) and Big Girls Don't Cry (2001) and Leading roles in television and independent German films. In 2009, she received the Bavarian Film Award for best young actress for her role as Lilli Richter in Caroline Links' film Im Winter ein Jahr.
Herfurth made her international debut in Perfume, 2006: The Life of a Murderer. She played "Plum Girl," Patrick Süskind's first victim of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille in this adaptation. In 2008, she co-starred with Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes in the Academy Award-nominee The Reader.
