Fontaine, who was born in Morocco to a French father and a Spanish mother but who later represented France, has scored the most goals in a single World Cup (seen with the golden boot, left), after scoring 13 times in just six matches in Sweden's 1958 edition. His exploits at that tournament were part of a long, but short international career in which he scored 30 goals in just 21 caps. After netting a hat-trick against Luxembourg on debut against Luxembourg in 1953, Fontaine was always intended for fame for Les Bleus.
