Joshua Ostrovsky (born February 18, 1982), also known as The Fat Jew, is an American comedian, writer, actor, model, winemaker, and entrepreneur.

Early life

Ostrovsky was born and raised in New York City by a Russian-born radiologist father Paul and a foodist mother Rebecca. He grew up in Manhattan on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. He attended numerous schools, starting at the Packer school in Brooklyn and then attending Trevor Day School and the Dwight School, both on the Upper West Side. He appeared in a number of advertisements, one for Hershey's. After attending New York University and Skidmore College and being refused from both, he enrolled at State University of New York in Albany, graduating in 2006 with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

Personal life

Katie Sturino and Ostrovsky married in 2014, and they announced their divorce in 2016. Buddy, the son of Ostrovsky and Caitlin King, was born in February 2021.

Ostrovsky, an ordained minister, has officiated numerous wedding receptions, including a spontaneous one at Nikki Beach in Miami in December 2017.

Ostrovsky is a co-founder of Swish Beverages, which introduced White Girl Rosé in 2015 and the Babe family of sparkling canned wines. Anheuser-Busch InBev had acquired Swish Beverages in June 2019, marking the brewery's biggest wine investment to date.

Ostrovsky's account, "TheFatJewish," was launched on Instagram in 2011. In 2013, Ostrovsky released a video parodying SoulCycle, in which he accompanied a spin class for homeless people on Citi Bikes parked on the street. In 2013, his Instagram account was banned due to inappropriate content. He arranged a demonstration outside Instagram's New York office. On Vice.com, the demonstration was live streamed, and his account was restored after 15 minutes. "He has parlayed a profane sense of humor that mocks the tropes of social media culture and the hipsters who promote them; an apparent obsession for pot, dogs, and grandparents; and his own slovenly, outlandish physical appearance... into a huge web following," he wrote in 2014. Ostrovsky was selected to the top of the Top 30 Most Influential People on the Internet by Time magazine in 2015. He had over 10.2 million followers on Instagram as of October 2021, the most popular social media platform in the United Kingdom.

Osterrovsky has been hired to do product placement in his social media posts by companies like Burger King, Virgin Mobile, Apple, Budweiser, Weight Watchers, and Stella Artois. In 2015, he became a Seamless ambassador.

On The Daily 10 on E!, Ostrovsky was hired as an entertainment reporter interviewing celebrities. Later, he hosted An Intimate Conversation, a rap interview web series. In 2013, he sold a parodying the Williamsburg, Brooklyn hipster scene, which went unproduced. He opted to produce a scripted series for Comedy Central in 2014, based on his life. He joined Creative Artists Agency in 2015, spent time on Bloomberg News, appeared in a Bud Light commercial that aired during Super Bowl XLIX, as well as "Boys" by Charli XCX. He has appeared in several reality television shows, including 3AM and Beverly Hills' Real Housewives. He has appeared in several films, including the teen comedy Status Update starring Ross Lynch and Olivia Holt, as well as the teen comedy Status Update. He was featured in a 2017 ad campaign for Malibu Rum. He appears in the documentary The American Meme, which premiered at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival.

Ostrovsky, a member of Team Facelift, where he first began going by the name Fat Jew while at SUNY Albany. The moniker was inspired by one of his Eisner Camp's staff and by Screw magazine publisher Al Goldstein, according to him. Team Facelift was formed in 2004, and in 2006, the album Mixed Emotions was released. In 2010, the two families fell out.

Ostrovsky formed Major Behavior in September 2016, dubbed the world's first EDM tribute band. As part of Ostrovsky's IRL Tour, Major Behavior toured in 2016. Major Behavior, Dillon Francis, RL Grime, and Party Favorite were among the two IRL Tour highlights in 2017. During a May 2017 performance in Chicago, Major Lazer's Diplo joined Big Behavior onstage. Ostrovsky hosted a radio show called Major Behavior on Diplo's Revolution in 2018, an interactive music channel on SiriusXM.
