Jorge Andrés Martínez Career

Club career

Martnez, a Uruguayan boy from Montevideo, Uruguay, began his football career with Primera División Uruguaya's Montevideo Wanderers F.C., where he spent several seasons with the youth team before moving to the senior squad in 2000. The striker made 23 first team appearances before appearing in another 33 league appearances in which he also scored two goals. Martnez was pushed into a more offensive role in his third season with the Montevideo-based team, scoring 7 goals in 26 league starts. The young striker's next two seasons at the club were marred by injuries, with only 22 appearances and scoring two goals. Martnez departed from his hometown club after scoring 4 goals in just 11 appearances during the 2006 winter transfer market. After six first team seasons with the Wanderers, the young Uruguayan moved to Club Nacional de Football in 2006.

Martnez adapted to his new team after moving to Club Nacional de Football, but the league has limitations of 15 appearances and three goals. The player's second season was much more fruitful, with over 30 appearances in all leagues, scoring 11 goals, 6 of which came from league play. Calcio Catania, the Italian Serie A's best-selling Superstar, was influenced by his superb results during the 2006–07 season.

When he was officially introduced by Calcio Catania prior to the 2007–08 Serie A season, Martnez officially transferred to the Italian Serie A on August 2nd, 2007. In a 0–0 home draw against Genoa C.F.C., his first appearance came as a 56th-minute substitute. On September 2, 2007, it was scheduled on September 2nd. He made his debut on his debut with two outings, but he was forced to leave them both of them.

Martnez made his debut against Empoli F.C. Giacomo Tedesco, teammate Giacomo Tedesco, scored the winning goal in the 48th minute at his home stadium, the Stadio Angelo Massimino, on September 26, 2007. Martinez's first season with the club, he made 31 total appearances under new coach Silvio Baldini. In the 2007-08 Coppa Italia, he scored 8 goals in league as well as three others. Martinez saved Catania from relegation on the final day of the 2007–2008 Serie A season by scoring the equalizer against Scudetto hopefuls A.S. Roma, leveling the score at 1–1. The end, which brought Catania's stay in the Italian top flight, condemned Empoli to relegation, and also ensured that Roma will not win the 2007-08 Scudetto. Uruguayan coach Walter Zenga's second season was just as fruitful as his first year. Catania comfortably escaped relegation, and Martinez made almost 40 appearances in all competitions, scoring 8 goals in the process. Martinez was the in-form player for the Sicilian club for much of the season, as he established a strong strike force with Maxi López and Giuseppe Mascara during the 2009–2010 season. During the season, he was a key member of the team that beat Serie A giants Juventus F.C., A.C. Milan, Inter Milan, and archrivals Palermo. Despite being hospitalized, the winger made 25 Serie A appearances with a career best 9 goals. In four Coppa Italia matches, he has scored 2 goals.

Martnez was a central member of the Sicilian team during his three-year tenure and helped Catania reach a new high in the Serie A and a 12th-place finish in the table during the 2009-10 season.

Martnez and Leonardo Bonucci underwent medical examinations in Turin on June 28, 2010 ahead of their proposed transfers to Juventus. The transfer was officially concluded on July 1st, with the club paying €12 million to Catania for the winger's services. Juventus has signed Martnez to a four-year deal that will run until June 30, 2014. With an injury in his first game for the club, the player began his career with a 1-0 loss to A.S. Bari. Martnez made his return from injury in late October in a 0–0 draw with Bologna, bringing him back as a 71st-minute replacement. In a 2–1 away victory over San Siro over A.C. Milan, he was recognized for his outstanding play in the game, until a injury in the 56th minute forced a change. The injury was later found to be a significant blow to his left foot, putting the player out of action for almost four months. On January 23, 2011 against the United States, he made his return to action once more. Sampdoria has been playing in 9 additional games to bring his injury-ravaged season to an end.

Martnez was unquestionably injured during the 2010-11 season, and after such an injury-plagued season, the team underwent many shifts, and the player, Antonio Conte, was apparently not involved in the team's future plans. Despite being with the first squad during the 2011–12 Serie A season and playing in several pre-season friendlies, Martnez will continue to train and play regularly throughout the 2011–12 Serie A seasons in an effort to regain full fitness and form over the course of the season. Unfortunately for the Uruguayan international, his new start was hampered once more, with just 13 appearances for the Seahorses, who were eventually dismissed at the end of the season.

Martnez, who returned to Juventus on June 30, 2012, was no longer a member of the reigning Serie A champions, and despite his poor season with Cesena, he eventually signed with Romanian Liga I outfit CFR Cluj on September 2nd, 2012 in what would be another season-long loan contract.

Martnez joined Novara Calcio on a season-long loan contract on September 2nd. On the 30th of June 2014, he returned to Juventus. Martnez's contract was extended in 2013 and again on July 1, 2014.

(to 30 June 2015 and 2016 respectively)

International career

Martnez has played for Uruguay since 2004 and has scored four goals. He was chosen for the 2004 Copa América and was a participant in his side's 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign, but he missed the tournament due to an injury.
