André Santos Career

Early life and career

André Santos began his career with Figueirense, Flamengo, and Atlético Mineiro.

Santos moved to Corinthians in 2008, with Figueirense retaining 50% of the future transfer fee. DIS Esporte partially funded the agreement, but Corinthians later sold 22.5 percent of the rights. Dentinho and Renato were charged with R$ 5.4 million in total, as well as Dentinho and Renato. Corinthians also sold 40% rights to Turbo Sports for R$3.6 million, completing the transaction when the investor encouraged Figueirense's stay 50% rights, allowing Corinthians to retain 37.5% of the players' rights. Corinthians, on the other hand, did not pay Turbo Sports for its portion of the transfer fee (from Fenerbahçe), which caused the company to sue Corinthians.

Cristian Oliveira Baroni and his colleague in Corinthians joined Fenerbahçe on July 20, 2009. They have been working for five years.

In 52 league appearances for the football team, he scored a total of ten goals. In the Turkish Super League's 2010-11 season, he scored 5 goals in 25 appearances, making him Turkey's top scoring left back. Arsenal and Santos decided a €7 million fee on August 29, 2011.

Santos later said he was not abandoning a sinking ship by leaving Fenerbahçe, insisting he loved playing for them. Santos told reporters at Istanbul airport on Sunday, "I am leaving Fenerbahçe from front door." "I love the country, Istanbul, and Turkish people." I can come back here at the beginning of my career. I was happy at Fenerbahçe, but I did the right thing for my future.

André Santos signed for Arsenal on a long-term deal on August 31, 2011, Fenerbahce SK reported the fee was €7 million.

On September 13, he made his Gunners debut as an 86th-minute replacement for Gervinho in a 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League, and he made his 86th appearance for the Gunners. In the 2–1 victory over Olympiacos in the UEFA Champions League, he scored his first goal for Arsenal on September 28th.

Santos returned to Aston Villa on March 24, 2012 as a replacement for Kieran Gibbs in the 68th minute.

He scored the equalizing goal against West Bromwich Albion on May 13, bringing the score to 2–2. Arsenal continued to win the match 3–2 thanks to a Laurent Koscielny winner.

Santos received even more criticism after ex-Gunner captain Robin van Persie swapped shirts with ex-Gunner captain Robin van Persie at halftime on November 3rd, after a dismal first-half result against Manchester United.

Santos moved to Porto Alegre on February 10, 2013 after agreeing to a one-year loan contract (with the option for Arsenal to recall him after 6 months) with Grêmio. He had been signed by the club to compete in the Libertadores.

Santos signed with Flamengo on a two-year deal on Thursday, a two-year loan term that came to an end.

Santos was beaten by a Flamengo fan following their poor showing in their 4-0 loss to Internacional on July 20, 2014. Flamengo had scored 7 points in 11 games before the game, but Santos were hospitalized after the incident.

The fullbacks signed an agreement to leave the club on August 15, 2014, becoming a free agent.

Santos joined Indian Super League team FC Goa on September 29, 2014, after which he was born in Santos. Santos had a fruitful season with Goa, leading them to the semi-finals. In the tournament, Goa's main player scored 4 goals and gave 3 assists.

Santos signed Botafo Futebol Clube (SP) on February 5th and stayed on the team until the end of the season.

International career

He was called up for the first time to the Brazil national team for 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification and the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa on May 21. On June 15, 2009, he made his first international appearance as a substitute in a match against Egypt. He then started the following four games as Brazil advanced to gold in the tournament. He was in the starting lineup against the United States in the Final but Dani Alves was called off in the 66th minute of play when he had earlier picked a yellow card. Brazil defeated the match 3–2 by going forward. However, he was suspended for the friends shortly after, and Dunga selected Michel Bastos and Gilberto on the match against the Republic of Ireland in February 2010. The backbone of the 2010 FIFA World Cup squad against Ireland was also weakened by the 22-man squad against Ireland, who announced it on May 11th. Dunga was brought on by Mano Menezes after a disappointing World Cup for the national team. Santos regained his spot in the starting lineup under Menezes.
